  • Patent number: 8971309
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing a universal voice over packet (VOP) protocol call structure. The present invention allows VOP calls to be made across different service providers without traversing through a public switched telephone network (PSTN). The calls occur as On-Net calls. Email addresses may be used to call different parties. In addition, telephone numbers may be used to reach parties in the PSTN through an Off-Net carrier causing Off-Net calls.

  • Patent number: 8510826
Abstract: Service provider-independent on-demand distributed denial of service (DDoS) mitigation. A mitigation provider provides a service to customers to remove or reduce DDoS attacks regardless of the customer's relationship with a service provider. Customer profiles about the customers' IP traffics are loaded into mitigation devices. When a DDoS attack occurs, customer profiles are activated in a set of the mitigation devices. Routes are also modified to steer customer traffic to the mitigation devices. DDoS packets are removed at the mitigation devices and the “cleaned” IP traffic is subsequently routed to the destination.

  • Patent number: 7987493
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for mitigating distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks using central management and shared resources. The present invention implements a shared model for mitigating devices distributed in a packet network to mitigate a DoS attack. Mitigating devices are distributed in the packet network to support different network devices during a DoS attack. Configuration information is loaded dynamically into the mitigating devices to adjust the mitigation effort to different network devices. The present invention also implements a shared model for detecting devices distributed in the packet network to detect the presence of a DoS attack. Baselines are created to distinguish between valid packets and invalid packets. When invalid packets are detected, a notification occurs to other devices or a central management system.

  • Patent number: 7978685
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for receiving incoming voice telephone calls during a dial up internet session. An incoming telephone call to a telephone line in use for a dial-up internet session may be forwarded to a predetermined telephone number. When the incoming voice telephone call is received at the predetermined telephone number, the internet user may be notified of the incoming telephone call and may be given the option of receiving the incoming call or taking other actions with the incoming call. If the internet user elects to receive the incoming voice telephone call, the incoming voice telephone call is forwarded to the internet user's computer using a protocol for establishing voice telephony over a packet-based network, such as voice over internet protocol.

  • Patent number: 7636314
Abstract: A system and method for receiving dial-up Internet access calls with an available remote Internet Service Provider modem is provided. A data tandem in a modem center to which a data call is directed determines whether it can receive the call with a modem associated with it. If not, the data tandem queries other local data tandems to determine whether they receive the call with an associated modem. If no local data tandem can receive the call, remote data tandems are queried for an available modem. When an available modem is located, the dial-up Internet access call is routed to that modem, whether local or remote. The invention may also be used to optimize the routing of data calls to maintain optimal modem performance.
