  • Patent number: 8486086
Abstract: An implant includes a tube for permitting fluid flow. A flow controlling rod may be inserted within the tube passage. One or more holes around the circumference of the tube may be selectively permanently or temporarily occluded to give desired flow characteristics. A delivery device for implanting the implant may include a central bore in which a retractable wire is located. The retractable wire penetrates a tube passage of the implant. After the implant is in position in the eye, the retention wire is retracted out of the implant. In a method for manufacturing an implant, two tubes of different diameters are utilized. The smaller tube fits inside the longitudinal bore of the larger tube. When the tubes are cut, the smaller tube forms the tube of the implant and the remaining portions of the larger tube form the retention projection and/or disk of the implant.

  • Patent number: 6726664
Abstract: An implant having a tube for permitting fluid flow has an outer flange at the outlet end and a retention projection near the inlet end. A delivery device for implanting the implant has a central bore for accommodating the implant during the implantation procedure. When the implant is loaded in the delivery device, the retention projection of the implant protrudes beyond the outside surface of the delivery device. After the delivery device and implant have penetrated the tissue through which drainage is desired, and the retention projection has fully penetrated through the tissue, the delivery device is withdrawn. The retention projection acts as a hook engaging the inside surface of the tissue, causing the implant to stay implanted in the tissue. An implant may also be provided with a mechanism for temporary occlusion, in whole or in part, of the flow passage.

  • Publication number: 20040077937
Abstract: A device for pressing a medical operative element towards a body surface of a user is provided. The device includes a structure adapted for carrying the medical operative element, a restraining mechanism adapted to maintain the structure in a position, and a support. The support is secured to the structure at a position such that when a part of a body of the user is rested on the support, a force vector is created in the direction required to press the medical operative element towards the body surface of the user.

  • Publication number: 20040044393
Abstract: A self-expansible structure for implantation in a body cavity is provided. The structure has a generally tubular outline, a nominal length, a nominal diameter, and a unique behavior under constraint. The unique behavior is expressed by a transition diameter, at which a constrained behavior of the structure changes so that, at a constraining diameter smaller than the transition diameter, the structure conforms to the constraint by decreasing the structure's diameter, to below the nominal diameter, and elongating beyond the nominal length, while at a constraining diameter larger than the transition diameter but smaller than the nominal diameter, the structure conforms to the constraint by decreasing the structure's diameter below the nominal diameter, while substantially maintaining the nominal length.

  • Publication number: 20030125790
Abstract: A deployment device for deploying a self-expansible medical implant at a target location in a body cavity, is provided. While generally, the expansion of self-expansible structures tends to be abrupt, and the impact of expansion may cause injury, a two-stage expansion process of the present invention minimizes the impact of exapnsion. Additionally, an ability to manuever the medical imlant into position, after the first stage of expansion, provides for accurate positioning.
