    Abstract: A fluid seal assembly having a sleeve disposed circumferentially around a downhole tool. First and second fasteners extend circumferentially around the sleeve proximate respective first and second ends of the sleeve. The first and second fasteners may comprise a shape-memory alloy that, in response to a temporarily increased temperature, have caused the first and second fasteners to circumferentially compress the sleeve against an outer surface of the downhole tool.

    Abstract: A downhole acoustic measurement tool that includes a transducer operable for emitting and/or receiving acoustic signals to perform downhole measurements. The transducer includes multiple piezoelectric elements. Each piezoelectric element may have a first axial end and a second axial end, and the second axial end may be wider than the first axial end in a direction along a circumference of the transducer. The piezoelectric elements may be irregularly pitched azimuthally around one or more portions of a circumference of the transducer. The piezoelectric elements may be spaced apart by no more than the distance defined by W1*f1/FUL, where FUL is the upper limit of the frequency band of interest, W1 is the width of the transducer interelement spacing that produces parasitic mode at frequency f1.

    Abstract: Determining eccentricity and its direction of an inner tubular (e.g., tubing, liner, inner casing, etc.) in a cased hole using pulse-echo signals that are acquired in, for example, a dual-string cased well, being pre-processed for enhancing echo signals from the outer annular boundary and for reducing the inner tubular specular echo and pipe ringing. Disclosed methods also provide propagation speeds, of the signals traversing the annular materials between the inner tubular and outer annular boundary, that is be used to identify annular material (e.g., production fluids, brine, water, cement, collapsed formation, etc) and one of the input parameters for dual-string cement evaluation.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for automatic recognition of environmental parameters with azimuthally distributed transducers. For example, a toolstring is disposed in a cased portion of a borehole penetrating a subsurface formation. The toolstring comprises a module comprising azimuthally distributed acoustic transducers each operable to emit and receive acoustic signals. The module is operated to emit an acoustic signal into fluid surrounding the module in the casing and record data indicative of receipt, by a plurality of the transducers, of acoustic waveforms resulting from interaction of the emitted acoustic signal with the casing, including at least a non-specular diffraction head wave excited by a guided wave that is excited by diffraction of the acoustic signal propagating in the casing metal. Acoustic velocity of the guided wave in the casing metal is determined utilizing the recorded data and geometric parameters of the module.
