Abstract: A communications system is to communicate with an application server storing a plurality of applications. The communications system includes a mobile wireless communications device configured to store at least one application from among the plurality of applications, the at least one application having stored version information associated therewith. An intermediate server is configured to update the mobile wireless communications device by at least obtaining respective current version information for associated current versions of the plurality of applications and obtaining the stored application version information from the mobile wireless communications device for the at least one stored application. The stored application version information is compared with the current version information for the at least one stored application.

Abstract: A method of controlling touch input on a touch-sensitive display when a display element is active and a portable electronic device configured for the same are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method of controlling touch input on a touch-sensitive display of a portable electronic device, the method comprising: displaying a widget having at least one field on a user interface screen displayed on the touch-sensitive display; selecting the field in the widget in response to predetermined interaction with the touch-sensitive display; changing the value of the selected field in accordance with a predetermined touch gesture at any location on the touch-sensitive display; and re-displaying the widget on the user interface screen with the changed value of the selected field.

Abstract: A method, in a web page fragmentation server proxy having a processor, communication means and memory, of providing new and updated fragments to a mobile device, the mobile device requesting a web page with the request including identifiers for fragments of the web page already stored by the mobile device, the method having the steps of: receiving a web page from the internet corresponding with the web page requested by the mobile device; fragmenting the received web page, creating received fragments; comparing received fragments with fragments stored in the memory, the fragments not matching the memory being new fragments; storing new fragments; and passing new fragments to the mobile device. A system for this method including a mobile device adapted to receive fragments and refresh web pages based on fragments.
