Patent number: 10843596Abstract: A damper is arranged between the seat backrest and the seat base. This damper applies a resistance to seat backrest movement, especially movement from the vertical position to the folded position. The damper includes a pin and profile mounted on the seat backrest and seat base respectively, or vice versa. The pin and profile slide against each other during movement of the seat backrest relative to the seat base. The shape, size, material, and/or the surface characteristics of the pin and profile determine the resistance to movement of the seat backrest. These parameters of the pin and profile can be varied, especially along different portions of the profile to apply the desired resistance at different angular positions of the seat backrest with respect to the seat base.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2016Date of Patent: November 24, 2020Assignee: Adient Luxembourg Holding S.รก r.l.Inventors: Kannan Stanz, Keith Ziegler, Ornela Zekavica, Vasile Bozintan

Patent number: 9597988Abstract: A method of laser welding structures having different steel grades together. The method includes providing a first structure made from a first steel grade and composition and providing a second structure made from a second steel grade composition. The first structure is positioned adjacent the second structure to create a weld zone area wherein at least a portion of the first structure overlaps at least a portion of the second structure. A filler material is selected that has a composition that will create a weld joint between the first structure, the second structure and the filler material such that the weld joint has a predetermined microstructure. The filler material is positioned adjacent the weld zone area. A laser beam is directed at the weld zone area to create a weld joint between the first structure, the second structure and the filler material, wherein the weld joint has a predetermined microstructure.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2010Date of Patent: March 21, 2017Assignee: Johnson Controls Technology CompanyInventors: Daniel James Sakkinen, Ornela Zekavica, Anthony Kestian

Patent number: 9027225Abstract: A one-piece back frame including an upper portion, a lower portion and a pair of vertical portions. The upper portion includes a first flange bent downwardly and a second flange bent upwardly to enclose the upper portion. The first and second flanges are brazed or welded to one another, which has the effect of strengthening the upper portion of the back frame and increasing its resistance to forces and moments during front or rear impact. Additionally, a pair of tubes extend through and are connected to upper portion. The tubes are designed for receiving a head restraint, but also serve the additional purpose of further strengthening the upper portion to increase its resistance to forces and moments during front or rear impacts.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2011Date of Patent: May 12, 2015Assignee: Johnson Controls Technology CompanyInventors: Ornela Zekavica, Miodrag Mitch Petrovich, Atsushi Nakashima
