  • Patent number: 10927631
Abstract: There is provided an axial vibration tool with a flow control element, a rotary motor that provides an actuation force to the flow control element, a first flow path with at least a portion in fluid communication with the rotary motor and providing fluid to drive the rotary motor. A shock tool is carried by the outer housing and generates an oscillating force based on fluid pressure applied to an activation element. A high pressure flow path is between a source of high pressure fluid and the activation element, and a low pressure flow path is between a source of low pressure fluid and the activation element. The low pressure fluid source has a lower pressure than the high pressure fluid source. The flow control element controls flow through at least the high pressure path by applying pressure fluctuations to the activation element when actuated by the rotary motor.

  • Patent number: 10294733
Abstract: A length-adjustable connector for a downhole tool has an outer tubular body with an inner bore and a first locking profile accessible from the inner bore. A rotatable inner tubular body having a second locking profile is within the outer tubular body. The connector also has a threaded connection between the outer and- inner tubular bodies that causes axial movement of the inner tubular body relative to the outer tubular body as the inner tubular body rotates, and a locking sleeve having first and second ends sized to engage the first and second locking profiles respectively. The locking sleeve prevents relative rotation of the tubular bodies when engaged with the locking profiles. A connector is carried by the inner tubular body that extends axially away from the locking sleeve, and moves axially relative to the outer tubular body as the inner tubular body is rotated.

  • Patent number: 9388652
Abstract: A hydraulic jar having multiple high pressure chambers includes a jar body comprising an inner body telescopically engaged by an outer body. There is a first contact surface carried by the inner body, and a second contact surface carried by the outer body that engage when the jar body is moved to the jarring position. A plurality of axially spaced pressure chambers are spaced axially along the jar body, with each pressure chamber having a hydraulic delay section and a jarring section. A piston separates the pressure chamber. A hydraulic delay is in fluid communication with a high pressure section and a low pressure section of each pressure chamber and permits movement of the piston toward the second end at a first speed. A jarring valve permits movement of the piston toward the second end at a second speed that is greater than the first speed when in a japing section.

  • Patent number: 7717472
Abstract: A method of locking tubular components in end to end relation. A first tubular body is provided having a tongue with an outwardly facing groove protruding past one end along an interior surface that has a keyway. A second tubular body is provided having a tongue with an inwardly facing groove protruding past one end along an exterior surface. A split ring is positioned in the grooves to connect the bodies. The split ring has a tapered outer surface to permit removal by an axial force. A tubular insert carries a locking key which engages the axial keyway. When the tubular insert is fully inserted into the first tubular body, the key underlies the split ring and prevents the split ring from having sufficient clearance to be withdrawn.

  • Publication number: 20070095575
Abstract: An adjustable bent housing (10) includes a first tubular body (12) and a second tubular body (14). The second tubular body (14) telescopically extends into the first tubular body (12) and is maintained in relative axial position by a threaded engagement (30 & 22). A locking sleeve (44) is provided to maintain the relative rotational position of the first tubular body (12) and the second tubular body (14). The locking sleeve (44) is non-rotatably coupled with and slidably movable the second tubular body (14) between a locking position and an adjusting position. A locking nut (48) is movable on the external surface (24) of the second tubular body (14) selectively clamps the locking sleeve (44) in the locking position. This adjustable bent housing (10) accommodates larger diameter drive shafts, while allowing adjustment to take place without changing the overall length of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20070092169
Abstract: A method of providing a consistent preload on thrust bearings in a bearing assembly. A first step involves placing against an inner race and an outer race of a bearing stack of tlirust bearings, deformable shims made from a material having a relatively flat stress-strain curve after its yield stress has been exceeded. A second step involves preloading the deformable shims beyond their yield point in situ until a predetermined preload tolerance is reached.
