  • Patent number: 5842406
Abstract: A piston for use in a compressor that compresses gas containing lubricating oil is disclosed. The compressor includes a housing having a crank chamber and cylinder bores for accommodating the pistons. A swash plate is located in the crank chamber and is supported on a drive shaft. The swash plate is operably connected to the pistons by shoes to convert the rotation of the drive shaft to reciprocation of each piston. Each piston has a head for compressing the gas supplied to the cylinder bore and a skirt projecting from the head toward the crank chamber and connected to the swash plate. A restrictor provided on the skirt slidably contacts an inner surface of the housing to prevent the piston from rotating in the cylinder bore. A sloped surface extends along the edge of an end face of the restrictor. The sloped surface guides the oil in the crank chamber toward the shoes when the piston moves from a top dead center position to a bottom dead center position.

  • Patent number: 5644968
Abstract: The hinge unit K of a variable capacity swash plate type compressor has support arms protruded to the back side of a rotor on the rotating drive shaft, and guide pins, one end of which is fixed to a rotatable and wobbling swash plate. The support arms have guide holes (guide surfaces) which extend in a predetermined direction having an angle .alpha. with respect to an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drive shaft. Sections perpendicular to the center lines L.sub.1 of the guide holes are formed into at least a partial circle. A spherical elements of the guide pins are slidably and rotatably engaged with the guide holes of the support arms to be in line contact with the guide surface of the guide holes. The angle .alpha. is set so that the top clearance TC of the respective pistons at both maximum and minimum compression capacities of the compressor is equivalent.

  • Patent number: 5588807
Abstract: A swash plate type variable displacement compressor is disclosed for adjusting an inclined angle of a swash plate (13) placed in a crank chamber (2a) in accordance with a pressure difference between the crank chamber (2a) and a gas suction chamber (4a) and for compressing gas supplied to compression chambers (18) from the gas suction chamber (4a) by pistons (21) that reciprocate with a stroke according to the inclined angle of the swash plate (13) in order to thereby control a volume of gas to be discharged from a gas discharge chamber (4b). A communication passage (23) connects the gas discharge chamber (4b) to the gas suction chamber (4a), and a branch passage (24) branching from the communication passage (23) is connected to the crank chamber (2a). Disposed in the communication passage (23) is a valve (25, 45) which normally blocks the communication passage (23) and opens the communication passage (23) to alter pressure in the crank chamber (2a).

  • Patent number: 5562182
Abstract: An oil diverting unit, incorporated in a compressor housing of a refrigerant compressor for a climate control system of an automobile, cooperating with a shaft seal unit mounted on a drive shaft of the compressor, so as to divert a flow of the lubricating oil which was suspended in the refrigerant gas and has leaked out of the interior of the compressor housing, to thereby prevent the lubricating oil from reaching a solenoid clutch mounted on a front portion of the drive shaft of the compressor. The oil diverting unit has an oil blocking plate member made of elastic material so that the plate member is elastically press-fitted in the compressor housing so as to define an oil dam for holding the lubricating oil and permitting the oil to be drained from the dam through a drain passageway toward the exterior of the compressor housing.

  • Patent number: 5556260
Abstract: A multiple-cylinder piston type compressor is disclosed. The compressor has a cylinder head fastened to the rear end of a cylinder block assembly of the compressor with a valve plate interposed therebetween and having formed therein a suction chamber formed in a radially outer peripheral region thereof so as to surround a central discharge chamber. The compressor further includes a refrigerant gas intake passage extending along a straight line and radially through the axial center of the compressor and having at least two holes for providing direct communication between the gas intake passage and the suction chamber at positions that are radially spaced. The refrigerant gas intake passage may include a combination of at least two passage portions having different cross-sectional areas.

  • Patent number: 5533871
Abstract: A single-headed piston type swash-plate compressor has a cylinder block having cylinder bores in which a plurality of pistons are slidably received. A first housing is attached to a first end of the block to form a crank chamber therebetween, and a second housing is attached to a second end thereof to form an annular suction chamber and a central discharge chamber therebetween. The chambers are partitioned by an annular wall portion projected from an inner wall of the second housing such that the suction chamber surrounds the discharge chamber. A drive shaft rotatably is extended through the crank chamber, and a conversion mechanism is provided on the shaft for converting a rotating movement of the shaft into a reciprocating movement of each piston in the corresponding bore such that a suction stroke and a discharge stroke are alternately executed therein.

  • Patent number: 5380161
Abstract: In a swash-plate compressor, pistons are slidably received in cylinder bores. A drive shaft is extended through a crank chamber, and is rotated through an electromagnetic clutch means associated therewith. A conversion mechanism is provided on the shaft for converting a rotational movement of the shaft into a reciprocation of each piston in the corresponding cylinder bore such that a suction stroke and a discharge stroke are alternately executed therein. A fluid is introduced from a suction chamber into the bore during the suction stroke, and during the compression stroke, the fluid is compressed in and discharged from the bore into a discharge chamber. The conversion mechanism is constituted such that a stroke length is shortened in response to an increase of a pressure in the crank chamber, and vice versa. A first passage communicates the crank with the suction chamber, and a second passage communicates the crank chamber with the discharge chamber.

  • Patent number: 5333679
Abstract: A climate control system incorporated in a motor vehicle having a hydraulic pump directly driven by a vehicle engine to deliver a working oil under pressure to be supplied to either a hydraulic motor for driving a refrigerant compressor of an air-conditioning system or a heat conversion unit of the heating system via a hydraulic flow control valve for controlling the flow direction of the working oil. The air-conditioning system has an evaporator for cooling the air supplied to the vehicle compartment. In the heat conversion unit of the heating system, pressure energy of the working oil is converted to thermal energy thereof by which the engine cooling water is heated to thereby heat the air supplied to the vehicle compartment via a radiator unit made of a heater core.
