  • Patent number: 6684982
Abstract: A bicycle cable disc brake is provided a disc brake pad adjustment mechanism to adjust the spacing between the friction pads. Basically, the cable disc brake has a first caliper housing portion containing a cable actuated mechanism, and a second caliper housing portion containing the disc brake pad adjustment mechanism. The disc brake pad adjustment mechanism has a caliper housing portion, an adjusting axle, an adjusting plate and an adjustment biasing member. The adjusting axle movably is coupled to the caliper housing portion to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the adjusting axle. The adjusting plate is coupled to the adjusting axle to move axially along the longitudinal axis of the adjusting axle upon rotation of the adjusting axle relative to the caliper housing portion. The adjustment biasing member is operatively disposed between the caliper housing portion and the adjusting axle and arranged to axially urge the adjusting axle against the caliper housing portion.

  • Patent number: 6527303
Abstract: A hydraulic hose assembly is provided for connecting hydraulic components of a bicycle. The hydraulic hose assembly has a flexible hose, a rigid tubular insert, connecting fastener and a tubular bushing. The compression bushing surrounds the flexible hose in order that the connecting fastener can be tightened to compress the bushing into a watertight seal. The compression bushing has an annular recess that is located between a pair of inclined sections. The annular recess is configured to limit the amount of radial expansion of the outer diameter of the bushing when the hydraulic hose assembly is coupled to the bicycle component.

  • Patent number: 6089356
Abstract: A bicycle brake device has a pair of brake mechanisms for applying a braking action to a rim of a bicycle wheel. Each brake mechanism includes a mounting member which is fixedly coupled to the frame of the bicycle. Each brake mechanism further includes a brake arm, a linkage assembly, a brake shoe and a biasing member or return spring. In the preferred embodiments of the present invention, the linkage assembly is a four-bar linkage assembly in which a biasing member applies a stabilizing force to the links to reduce vibrational movement therein. In one embodiment, the biasing member is a torsion spring fixed about the pivot pin between the brake shoe attachment link and the brake arm. In a second embodiment, the biasing member is a torsion spring positioned between the inner link and the brake shoe attachment link.

  • Patent number: 5865064
Abstract: A brake lever arm is mounted to a base member, with the base member fixed to a bicycle handlebar. The lever arm is pivotal about a pivot point on the base. The lever arm includes an adjusting mechanism that adjusts the position of the lever arm when the lever arm is in a brake dis-engaged position. The adjusting mechanism is slideable in grooves in the lever arm such that the adjusting mechanisms may be moved to positions that are differing distances away from the pivot point. The adjusting mechanism includes a contact member that engages a brake cable connected to the lever arm when the lever arm is moved from the brake dis-engaged position toward a brake engagement position. The position of the contact member with respect to the pivot point determines the effect movement of the lever arm has on the cable. In this manner, the adjusting mechanism adjusts the length of the stoke or travel of the lever arm from the brake dis-engaged position to the brake engagement position.
