Patent number: 7664368Abstract: It is possible to save power in an HDD/optical disc combination camera. During a normal recording operated by a battery, only the hard disk is operated and operation of the optical drive is stopped. Alternatively, only the optical drive is operated and the operation of the hard disk is stopped. During dubbing, both of the HDD and the optical drive are operated when performing play-back/display during the dubbing and a large current is consumed. Accordingly, the operation is permitted only by external power supply. In the case of dubbing not performing play-back/display, the battery remaining amount is checked and dubbing is permitted only if the amount is equal to or greater than a threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2006Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Hiroaki Ono, Osamu Komoda

Patent number: 5886969Abstract: An optical recording/reproducing method employs a recording laser beam having a first output and a first wavelength, and a reproducing laser beam having a second output lower than the first output and a second wavelength shorter than the first wavelength. A disk-like recording medium is irradiated with the recording and reproducing laser beams by use of an objective lens having an NA of about 0.55 so that a small mark equal to or smaller than about one fourth of a spot size optically defined from the wavelength of the recording laser beam and the NA of the objective lens is formed on the recording medium by a recording characteristic of the recording medium and a shielding plate provided in an optical system for irradiation with the laser beam. Two-dimensional recording is performed as a recording system to arrange marks at lattice points of a two-dimensional lattice which extend in a track direction and a track radius direction.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Maeda, Hisataka Sugiyama, Hiroyuki Awano, Harukazu Miyamoto, Keikichi Andoo, Kouichirou Wakabayashi, Atsushi Saito, Takeshi Shimano, Junko Ushiyama, Osamu Komoda, Hideki Saga

Patent number: 5615199Abstract: An optical head apparatus for recording and reproducing data to and from optical disks, the apparatus boosting recording density by use of an objective lens with a higher numerical aperture (NA) than ever. A phase plate is added to the pupil position of the objective lens or to a position close thereto. The phase plate arrangement provides a deeper focal length, reduces the adverse effects of aberration and eliminates the need for a tilt servo mechanism despite the use of the objective lens having a greater numerical aperture than before.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Kimio Tatsuno, Takeshi Shimano, Hiroshi Fukuda, Osamu Komoda
