  • Patent number: 5160358
Abstract: A process for easily producing a silica glass plate having an internal refractive index distribution suitable for a planar optical waveguide involves carrying out the following steps.(a) A porous silica gel plate produced by a sol-gel method is kept in a reactor, the pressure of which is reduced to a substantially vacuum state.(b) Germanium tetrachloride gas is introduced into the reactor at a partial pressure appropriate to establish an absorption equilibrium between a desired concentration of germanium tetrachloride in said porous silica gel plate and a partial pressure of germanium tetrachloride introduced.(c) The partial pressure of germanium tetrachloride in step (b) is reduced so as to desorb germanium tetrachloride from the surface of the porous silica gel plate.(d) The porous silica gel plate having a described concentration distribution is brought into contact with water within or outside the reactor so as to fix the distribution.

  • Patent number: 4783876
Abstract: A concealable wiper apparatus for a vehicle has a wiper assembly disposed in such a manner that the wiper assembly can be accommodated in an accommodating chamber provided inside the body of the vehicle and in the vicinity of a window glass. The wiper assembly is vertically moved between an accommodated position at which it is accommodated in the accommodating chamber and a raised position at which the wiper assembly wipes the window glass. In addition, a wiper arm which supports a wiper blade that wipes the window glass is adapted to be capable of expansion and contraction. Accordingly, when the wiper is not used, the wiper apparatus is accommodated in the accommodating chamber, so that it is possible to minimize the air resistance to the vehicle and reduce the size of the accommodating chamber.

  • Patent number: 4780926
Abstract: A wiper apparatus for a vehicle includes first and second arms. One end portion of the first arm is rigidly secured to a wiper arm pivoting shaft. One end portion of the second arm is secured to a wiper blade, and the other end portion of the second arm is pivotally supported by the other end portion of the first arm. A stretching mechanism is provided between the first and second arms for bending and stretching the second arm relative to the first arm. An actuator for activating the stretching mechanism is provided on the wiper arm pivoting shaft. Accordingly, when the wiper is not used, the second arm can be bent relative to the first arm, so that an occupant of the vehicle is allowed to have an improved view of the outside from the inside of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4106353
Abstract: A device for moving a curved plate bent in a substantially arcuate-shape along a curved path, in which a lift arm pivotably supported on a pivot is operatively connected at one end thereof to a lift arm bracket having a bent end portion in such a relationship that the extension line of the bent end portion of the lift arm bracket makes an acute angle with the axis of the pivot supporting the lift arm. Due to the fact that the lift arm is connected to the bent end portion of the lift arm bracket by means of a guide pin which is guided in a predetermined direction along a slot provided in the bent end portion of the lift arm bracket and the extension line of the bent end portion of the lift arm bracket makes the acute angle, namely an angle less than 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4098134
Abstract: A device for moving a curved plate bent in a substantially arcuate-shape, in which a lift arm driven by a rotary shaft and carrying the curved plate at one end thereof to cause movement of the curved plate is pivotably supported on a pivot mounted on a base, and the axis of this pivot is directed to make an acute angle with the moving plane of the curved plate. In the device, the curved plate carrying end of the lift arm moves along a curved path the curvature of which is substantially equal to that of the curved plate, thereby preventing impartation of a stress tending to cause deformation of the device.
