  • Patent number: 6312758
Abstract: Excellent coating device and method are disclosed which realize high-speed coating by improving the rigidity of a coating solution film and increasing the pressure of a coating solution film to a support so as not to be inferior to the wind pressure of an air film. In the coating method for extruding and applying an organic solvent contained in a paint used for a magnetic tape onto a continuously traveling support from a slit of an extrusion die, the slit spacing tl is set to not greater than 50 &mgr;m and the gap t2 between the support and the extrusion die is set to 0.5 to 2 mm, while the extrusion speed of the organic solvent from the slit is set to not lower than 2.5 m/sec. A uniform film may be formed over a coating width only by the kinetic energy of the extruded solvent so as to enable realization of high coating film rigidity and coating solution pressure. Thus, high-speed coating onto the continuously traveling support may be carried out in a non-contact manner.

  • Patent number: 5851289
Abstract: An applicator in which a coating can be applied to a base material at high speed, a coating film can be thinned and a desired coating film can be obtained when the coating films of two or more layers are simultaneously formed. A die 2 is provided with a slit 5 for a lower layer and a slit 15 for an upper layer which respectively serve to extrude a coating 6 for the lower layer and a coating 16 for the upper layer to the base material. The coatings 6 and 16 are respectively extruded from these slits 5 and 15 to the continuously running base material 1 so that the coating films of two layers are formed. Lower layer lips 4 forming the lower layer slit 5 are provided so as to be not in contact with the base material 1. Upper lips 14 forming the upper layer slit 15 are provided so as to abut on the base material 1. When a magnetic coating is used as the coating 6 for the lower layer, a magnet part may be opposed to the lips 4 for the lower layer by sandwiching the base material 1 therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5704978
Abstract: There is provided a coating apparatus capable of achieving high-speed coating and a decrease in thickness of a coating film and obtaining a preferable coating film. In an extrusion type coating apparatus including a die having a coating material reservoir to which a coating material is supplied, the coating material being coated on a continuously traveling support member while the coating material is extruded from a slit formed in a tip of the die, a magnet portion having adjacent tip portions to form a magnetic gap is arranged such that the magnetic portion and the tip portion of the die face each other to interpose the support member therebetween, and upper and lower lips defining the slit at the tip of the die are arranged out of contact with the support member.

  • Patent number: 4788611
Abstract: A magnetic transducer head wherein confronting surfaces of a pair of magnetic core parts comprised of a ferromagnetic oxide material are notched, and the notch defining surfaces have metallic ferromagnetic layers supported thereby. The method of physical vapor deposition as known per se is used for forming these layers. The transducer coupling gap of each magnetic head is defined by an aligned pair of pole piece layers formed from the deposited metallic ferromagnetic material. The pole piece layers are inclined at a preset angle with respect to the plane of the coupling gap, and have extensions formed of the deposited metallic ferromagnetic material presenting bend contours between the pole piece layers and the lateral sides of the core parts.
