Patent number: 6952193Abstract: Provided are image display apparatus and image display methods capable of suitably making correction for variation of driving conditions due to an electric resistance of matrix wiring of a display panel by downsized hardware. The apparatus and methods involve a device of calculating voltage drop amounts caused by the resistance of row wires, for input image data, and a device of calculating image data with correction for the voltage drop amounts (corrected image data). An overflow processing circuit is provided so as to prevent overflow of the image data after the correction from an input range of a modulator, and the overflow is prevented by a gain. Since a gradation converter for changing a gradation conversion characteristic by a gain is provided in the stage preceding to the configuration for making the correction for influence of the voltage drop, it becomes feasible to cancel saturation characteristics of phosphors and to display images with high quality thereby.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2002Date of Patent: October 4, 2005Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Naoto Abe, Kohei Inamura, Osamu Sagano, Hiroshi Saito, Takeshi Ikeda

Publication number: 20040257386Abstract: In an image display apparatus, image data on which gradation conversion for compensating phosphor saturation has been carried out by a gradation convertor (200) undergoes voltage drop compensation and then amplitude regulation using a gain (Gd) before being fed to modulating means (8). Here, the gradation convertor (200) changes its conversion characteristic (the region of a compensation table it uses) in accordance with the value of the gain (Gd). As a result it is possible to compensate the affects of phosphor saturation characteristics and voltage drop and an excellent image can be displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2004Publication date: December 23, 2004Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Osamu Sagano, Kohei Inamura, Naoto Abe, Hiroshi Saito, Takeshi Ikeda

Publication number: 20040246277Abstract: Driving condition is determined so that the stimulating values of brightness with respect to drive data become closer to being regular in interval. As the drive condition, the frequency of a reference clock used for the pulse width modulation is changed to be higher than the range of high gradations in the range of low gradations in drive data. Accordingly, smaller increment in brightness in the range of low gradation and larger increment in the range of high gradations are achieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2004Publication date: December 9, 2004Applicant: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Naoto Abe, Osamu Sagano
