  • Patent number: 7926463
Abstract: An engine provided with a fuel injector for directly injecting fuel into a cylinder, a spark plug positioning a spark gap in a flight path of fuel injected from the fuel injector, and a cavity formed in a piston top face, wherein at the time of stratified combustion, the fuel injector injects substantially all of the fuel in a direction merging with a tumble flow, swirling in a longitudinal direction along the cavity at the compression stroke, along the swirl direction of the tumble flow and uses the spark plug to ignite the fuel while the fuel at the end period of injection is passing through the spark gap.

  • Patent number: 7597085
Abstract: When a homogeneous combustion is to be executed at a lean air-fuel ratio, a tumbling flow that whirls in the cylinder descending in the cylinder bore on the exhaust valve side and ascending in the cylinder bore on the intake valve side, is intensified by the fuel that is injected from the fuel injection valve toward the exhaust valve side in the cylinder bore in the last stage of the intake stroke.

  • Patent number: 7487756
Abstract: A direct cylinder fuel injection-type spark ignition internal combustion engine which executes a stratified charge combustion by vaporizing the fuel while flying after having been injected into the cylinder in the compression stroke to form a mixture in a portion in the cylinder, and by igniting and burning the mixture by positioning the spark gap of a spark plug in the mixture at the ignition timing before the compression top dead center, wherein when the fuel is required in an increased amount and the air-fuel ratio of the mixture formed by the fuel injected by the first fuel injection near the ignition timing becomes too rich, part of the required amount of fuel is injected by a second fuel injection in the compression stroke separately from the first fuel injection and when the amount of fuel injected by the second fuel injection becomes larger than a preset amount, the second fuel injection is brought to the side in advance of the first fuel injection and when the amount of fuel injected by the second fu

  • Publication number: 20090013962
Abstract: An in-cylinder-injection type spark-ignition internal combustion engine has a fuel injection valve and an ignition plug that are arranged substantially in the upper area of the cylinder. Fuel is injected from the fuel injection valve in the flow direction of the tumble flow that swirls in the cylinder by flowing downward through the exhaust valve side of the cylinder bore and upward through the intake valve side of the cylinder bore, so as to intensify the tumble flow.

  • Publication number: 20090000595
Abstract: A control apparatus of an in-cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine provided with at least an in-cylinder fuel injection valve that injects fuel directly into a cylinder executes temperature increase promotion control that promotes an increase in temperature near a nozzle hole of the in-cylinder fuel injection valve when a detected temperature near the nozzle hole of the in-cylinder fuel injection valve is within a deposit forming temperature range.

  • Publication number: 20080210196
Abstract: In a direct-injection internal combustion engine, a variable intake valve, of which valve timing can be varied, is used as an air intake valve through which an air intake path and a combustion chamber communicate with each other. The direct-injection internal combustion engine includes: a variable-intake-valve control section that controls the valve timing of the variable intake valve; and an intake-air temperature acquisition section that acquires a temperature of the intake air introduced into the combustion chamber. When the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber via a fuel injection valve during a compression stroke or an expansion stroke, if the acquired intake-air temperature is low, the closing timing of the variable intake valve is advanced, so that the actual compression ratio is increased.

  • Patent number: 7406942
Abstract: A direct-injection internal combustion engine includes a variable-exhaust-valve control device for controlling value timing of a variable exhaust valve through which the combustion chamber of an engine cylinder communicates with an exhaust path. The variable-exhaust-value control device retards the opening timing of the variable exhaust value to a retard side when the fuel is injected during a compression stroke or an expansion stroke while the direct-injection internal combustion engine is operating in a cold-start state.
