    Abstract: In a rear-projection screen comprising a Fresnel lens and a light-diffusing member such as a lenticular lens sheet, a rise angle in a central region of the Fresnel lens is smaller than a rise angle in an intermediate region thereof (e.g., the former is not larger than 3.degree. and the latter is larger than 3.degree. ). The rise angles may preferably gradually increase from the central region of the Fresnel lens toward the intermediate region thereof. The central region of the Fresnel lens may preferably be a region extending within the range of from 1/4 to 1/3 from the middle point of a diagonal of the rear-projection screen. Such a Fresnel lens is effective for improving white uniformity in the intermediate region of the rear-projection screen and eliminating color corn in the central region thereof.

    Abstract: A transferring apparatus transfers a toner image formed on the surface of a photoreceptor drum onto a sheet. The photoreceptor drum surface and a transfer roller are arranged in such manner that a gap larger than the thickness of the sheet is left between the photoreceptor drum and transfer roller, and a lower guide member for guiding the sheet in such direction that the sheet abuts the drum surface at a predetermined angle is arranged between a resist roller pair and the drum. The sheet which abuts the drum surface by way of the upper surface of the guide member is in close contact with the drum surface while being bent and deformed along the drum surface. A conveying roller is provided, opposite the upper surface of the lower guide member, with a predetermined gap between, at a position close to but out of contact with the drum surface. The conveying roller may also be arranged to contact the transfer roller.

    Abstract: This invention relates to an STN liquid crystal display device and a retardation means, in which coloring caused by wavelength dependency of a birefringent effect is compensated for and decolored by using a novel combination of retardation films. At least a pair of retardation films manufactured by stretching a polymeric film and having positive and negative intrinsic birefringence values are arranged such that their main stretching directions cross each other. Coloring is decolored and at the same time viewing angle dependency of display is minimized by this arrangement. Decolored black-and-white display having small viewing angle dependency can be obtained, bright display with less light absorption is realized, and the thickness of the display device can be decreased.
