  • Patent number: 8572422
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to improve safety. A disk array apparatus of the present invention includes: CHE and MEM for temporarily storing data which is transmitted/received between a host device and a disk enclosure; CPU, RAIDC, and NVMC for controlling transmission/reception of data; power supply units for supplying power, which is supplied from an external power supply, to disk array control units; batteries for supplying power to the disk array control unit when the power being supplied from the external power supply is shut OFF without executing power supply shut down processing; an insertion/extraction detection unit for detecting insertion/extraction of a connector used for connecting the disk array control unit with the power supply unit; and battery monitors for stopping power supply by the battery when extraction of the connector is detected while the battery is supplying power to each device of the disk array control unit.

  • Patent number: 8356205
Abstract: Degree of freedom of a device structure is increased to equalize processor loads by separating the function of executing data read and write processing from the host interface and the disk interface. A disk array device including a disk enclosure and a disk control unit, wherein the disk control unit includes a host interface connected to a host computer which accesses the disk array device, a disk interface connected to the disk enclosure, a plurality of processors that execute data read and write processing between the host computer and the disk enclosure, and a switch which connects the host interface and the disk interface, and the plurality of processors, wherein the switch having a function of selecting a processor which executes the data read and write processing.

  • Patent number: 7890791
Abstract: Even if failure probabilities are different for hard disks due to the individual specificity such as a hard disk manufacturer, model number or the like, a disk with high failure probability is reliably determined and removed from the operating RAID to be kept in a standby state as a hot spare disk, thereby keeping a low failure probability of the disk array device. In order to realize this, the disk array device includes a disk controlling unit for, based on S.M.A.R.T. information of each of the hard disks read by a S.M.A.R.T. information reading unit, assigning a predetermined number of hard disks to the hot spare disk in descending order of failure probability of the hard disks.

  • Patent number: 7711895
Abstract: A storage device, a data arrangement method and a computer program are disclosed, in which the redundancy is maintained even if a cache module runs out of order, and the deterioration of the write processing performance is prevented at the time of failure of the cache memory module. When cache 0 fails while cache 0 and cache 1 possess duplicate data that is not stored in disks, data of cache 0 is copied onto data of cache 4 that is synchronized with the disks.
