  • Publication number: 20240117498
Abstract: A coated cutting tool and a method to manufacture, and the use of the same is provided. The coated cutting tool includes of a substrate and a coating including a physical vapor deposition (PVD) deposited Ti,Al-based nitride layer having a thickness of at least 1.0 ?m. The PVD deposited Ti,Al-based nitride layer has at least one layer of TiAlN. The coating further includes a CVD deposited layer of TiN located between the substrate and the PVD deposited Ti,Al-based nitride layer. The CVD deposited layer of TiN is in contact with both the substrate and the PVD deposited Ti,Al-based nitride layer. The method for manufacturing a coated cutting tool includes growing a TiN layer by CVD on the substrate, and growing a Ti,Al-based nitride layer by PVD on the TiN layer.

  • Publication number: 20220288697
Abstract: A coated cutting tool includes a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge region between and adjoining the flank face and the rake face in a nose area of a cutting tool insert. The cutting edge region is intersected by an edge line and defines a cutting edge sector that defines an cutting edge radius, re. The coated cutting tool includes a substrate with a coating having a thickness between 1 ?m and 40 ?m, where the coating includes an ?-Al2O3 layer and an MTCVD TiCN layer located between the substrate and the ?-Al2O3 layer.

  • Patent number: 10286453
Abstract: A coated cutting tool insert includes a substrate of cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics, steel or cubic boron nitride having deposited thereon a coating having a total thickness of 60 ?m, including one or more layers having a wear resistant layer of ?-Al2O3 of a thickness of 1 to 45 ?m deposited by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). The ?-Al2O3 layer includes at least two portions, a first thickness portion and a second thickness portion immediately on top of the first thickness portion. The first thickness portion has an essentially columnar ?-Al2O3 grain structure, and at a transition from the first thickness portion to the second thickness portion the grain boundaries of at least 1 out of 25 neighboring grains of the ?-Al2O3 grains undergo a directional change into a direction that is essentially perpendicular, 90±45 degrees, to the grain boundaries in the first thickness portion.

  • Patent number: 9149871
Abstract: A cutting tool insert for machining by chip removal includes a body of a hard alloy of cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics or cubic boron nitride based material onto which a hard and wear resistant coating is deposited by CVD. The coating includes at least one multitextured ?-Al2O3 layer with a thickness between 0.5 ?m and 30 ?m characterized with an ODF texture index>1 and at least two dominant texture components with 2<ODF density<100 coexisting within the layer. A method of making and using the cutting tool insert are also described.
