Abstract: A convalescent bed comprises a base frame and a mattress support frame pivotally mounted on the base frame for movement between horizontal and vertical positions. The support frame includes a body portion and a hinged head portion. Power mechanisms are provided for moving the support frame as a unit between the horizontal and vertical positions, and also for swinging the head portion up from the horizontal position independently of the body portion. Further, the bed can be divided longitudinally into two separate sections to facilitate maneuvering same in confined spaces and through narrow openings.
