Abstract: The disclosed technology provides solutions for improving vehicle safety and in particular, for improving pedestrian safety when automatically closing windows of an autonomous vehicle (AV). The disclosed technology includes a process for automatically closing one or more windows of and AV, including steps for determining if one or more passengers are present inside a cabin of an autonomous vehicle (AV), determining if a speed of the AV has exceeded a predetermined speed threshold for longer than a predetermined time threshold, and automatically returning one or more windows of the AV to a closed position if it is determined that there are no passengers present inside the cabin of the AV and the speed of the AV has exceeded the predetermined speed threshold for a time duration that exceeds the predetermined time threshold.
