  • Patent number: 4482106
Abstract: A geared fishing reel is disclosed herein having a supporting frame with opposite end plates rotatably mounting a central shaft carrying a fishing line storage spool. A turning assembly including a crank handle is operably carried on the frame for rotating the spool via the central shaft. The turning assembly includes a movable drive latch carried on a crank plate for selective engagement with a lug projecting laterally from a drive gear meshed with a pinion gear carried on the end of the central shaft in order to achieve non-slip, positive direct drive of the spool by the crank handle. A latch disconnect mechanism is operably carried between the crank plate and the frame for automatically disengaging the drive latch from driving the gear lug via a release blade pivotally mounted on the frame and which further includes a timing mechanism turning with the crank plate and handle cooperating with a pawl disposed on the frame.

  • Patent number: 4479616
Abstract: An extendable crank handle is disclosed herein having an elongated body provided with a channel for slidably receiving a crank bar which is moved between an extended position to increase the throw of the crank movement and a retracted position which decreases the throw of the crank movement. The body and the slide bar include corresponding cut-out portions for operably carrying an over-center toggle mechanism for yieldably retaining the slide bar in either of the two positions. Limit stops are provided on the body for limiting the movement of the slide bar in either of the two positions.

  • Patent number: 4461435
Abstract: A fishing reel is disclosed herein having a supporting frame provided with a stub shaft on which a sleeved and knobbed crank plate is rotatably mounted. A fishing line storage spool is carried on the sleeve of the crank plate by a pair of spaced apart ball bearing assemblies. A drive latch is carried on the crank plate for selective disposition into engagement with one of several drive lugs projecting from the side of the spool adjacent to the crank plate in order to achieve non-slip, positive drive. A disconnect mechanism is operably carried between the crank plate and the frame for disengaging the drive latch from the spool lugs via a release blade and which includes a timing mechanism carried on the crank plate sleeve cooperating with a pawl carried on the frame.

  • Patent number: 4428141
Abstract: A guide is disclosed herein through which a fishing line is trained which includes a U-shaped frame or yoke movably supporting a spool roller on ball bearing assemblies between sideplates which is provided with a reduced central portion for movably conducting and guiding the fishing line thereover. The spool roller includes end flanges which are inset into end caps while the ball bearing assemblies are carried on opposite ends of the spool roller. A mounting shaft extends through the spool roller and the end caps detachably mount the spool roller and bearing assemblies to the yoke sideplates via a threaded engagement with the shaft. Detachable mounting members retain the yoke onto the fishing pole via a plurality of thread windings wrapped therearound.

  • Patent number: 4352474
Abstract: A fishing reel of the fly fishing type is disclosed herein having a supporting frame provided with a stub shaft for rotatably mounting of a ratchet shaft having a toothed flange carried on one end. A fishing line storage spool is carried on the ratchet shaft by a pair of ball bearing assemblies. A crank plate is releasably secured to the end of the ratchet shaft so that the spool may be manually rotated by a winding crank fixed to the crank plate. A security locking mechanism holds the crank plate to the ratchet shaft. A friction-disc is disposed between the opposing surfaces of the toothed ratchet flange and spool while a drag adjuster mechanism is operably carried on the winding crank and is adapted to selectively engage with the spool for moving the spool into frictional engagement with the friction disc.
