  • Patent number: 5474186
Abstract: A cylindrical classifier includes a first rotating cylinder having a surface composed of parallel separator rods or tubes that extend along the length of the cylinder. The tubes or rods are spaced from each other to prevent oversized objects from passing between them. Material to be classified is fed to the interior of the cylinder. As the cylinder rotates, objects of the desired size and smaller objects pass between the spaced separator rods and exit the cylinder. The first cylinder is surrounded by a second coaxial cylinder so that there is a space between the first and second cylinders. The outer cylinder has a separating screen which prevents objects of a desired size from passing through.

  • Patent number: 5337811
Abstract: An infeed conveyor for feeding wood of a variety of types and lengths to a debarking drum which can be adjusted in height so as to optimize the infeed conditions as desired. The conveying apparatus is adapted to convey tree-length logs to a debarking drum. To that end, the system includes a foundation and a conveyor disposed vertically above the foundation. The conveyor has an inlet end at which logs to be debarked are loaded and an outlet end adjacent the debarking drum. The conveyor is mounted to the foundation so that the height of the inlet end and/or the outlet end can be selectively varied with respect to the foundation assembly. The conveyor is then held at least temporarily held at a selected height and/or inclination.

  • Patent number: 5323975
Abstract: A wood chipping apparatus which includes a substantially closed chipping area for capturing and chipping slivers. The chipping apparatus includes a rotating cutting disk and a first anvil whereby most wood is chipped. Wood that is chipped passes through slots in the cutting disk to the discharge side of the apparatus. A second anvil or wear plate and an outer containing wall form, with the housing, the disk and the first anvil, a substantially closed compartment adjacent to, but downstream of, the first anvil. Wood parts that escape chipping by the first anvil and pass between the first anvil and the disk are trapped in the compartment until they are chipped by rotating blades which define, together with the disk and one side of the compartment.

  • Patent number: 5241999
Abstract: An infeed chute for a debarking drum is provided which is adapted to accommodate infeed from two log cranes simultaneously or nearly simultaneously. The chute has a central feed plate of relatively small width and trough plates of relatively great width and at a gentle slope, thereby to provide a smoothly and slightly inclined trough. Furthermore, wing plates are provided which not only define containing side walls but continue and extend the trough width to receive a plurality of log loads and yet smoothly guide the same towards a common inlet. Desirably, to accommodate the gentle slope and increased width of the chute assembly, three transition plates are provided adjacent the debarker inlet to round out the flow thereinto.

  • Patent number: 4240588
Abstract: An improved wood chipping installation of reduced overall height has conveyor means for feeding wood pieces to a chipping machine. The conveyor means includes a conveyor type screening device for separating proper size chips from oversize chips. Means are provided for transferring material chipped by the chipping machine back to the infeed end of the screening device so that oversize chips are fed by the conveyor, along with other wood pieces, back into the chipping machine while proper size chips and fines are separated out.

  • Patent number: 4140281
Abstract: In a timbering operation wherein the felled trees are fed into a chipper for conversion to chips at the timbering site the chips are fed into a trailer-mounted rotary cylindrical screen which separates the chips from dirt and fine bark particles. Preferably the chips entering the cylindrical screen are blown into engagement with an impact plate to aid in disloading particles of dirt and bark from the chips. The chipper may be mounted on the same trailer or may be a separate trailer-mounted unit.
