  • Patent number: 5347878
Abstract: A pipette for emptying liquid and filling with liquid includes a body housing an adjustment mechanism disposed to limit movement of the plunger, the adjustment mechanism being locked with a locking member elastically urged against a notched circle. The notched circle and the adjustment mechanism are rotatable while the locking member is non-rotatably connected to the body. When locked, the locking member rests in the notches of the notched circle, allowing for desired adjustment but preventing inadvertent adjustment of the pipette. A method for locking the pipette is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4431924
Abstract: A code system for the identification of a sample group to be measured in a multi-channel photometer or in any other multi-channel analysis equipment, e.g. in a spectrophotometer, fluorometer, luminometer, turbidometer, nefelometer, cell counter, or isotope counter. The samples to be measured have been fitted in the matrix form into cuvette sets, sets of test tubes, or pit plates, and the measurement takes place preferably in the vertical direction. The sample group to be measured is provided with a related code piece, such as a code plate, containing the measurement points to be ready by means of the analysis equipment. According to the invention, the measurement points of the code piece are in the same order and with the same relative distances as compared with the measurement channels of the said multi-channel photometer or any other multi-channel analysis equipment, or with a part of or a multiple of said channels.

  • Patent number: 4431307
Abstract: A set of cuvettes the side walls of whose cuvettes (2) are provided with a layer (29) of material that prevents measurement radiation and/or light (22) directed at the walls from passing through the side walls. The layer (29) inhibiting the passage of the measurement radiation may be placed on the inside face and/or on the outside face of the side walls of the cuvettes (2). When the inside face of the measurement window (16) in the cuvettes (2) is coated with a thin layer (34) of the material contained in the side walls of the cuvettes and preventing the passage of radiation, the layer of coating on the measurement window is, however, so thin that it allows the passage of the major part of the radiation through the window.

  • Patent number: 4335621
Abstract: A pipette comprising a handle portion, whose upper end is provided with a press knob with shaft and inside which a piston rod is fitted. To the bottom end of the piston rod is connected a piston or, by the intermediate of a common actuating means of the pistons, several pistons and, for each piston, a cylinder part, which is fastened to the frame construction of the handle portion. The piston rod and the press knob shaft, which are parallel to each other, are placed at a distance from each other, and their surfaces facing each other are shaped as jointly operative with a cogwheel or friction wheel fitted between them and journalled on the handle portion by means of a shaft. Then, when the press knob is depressed, by the intermediate of the press knob shaft, of the cogwheel or friction wheel, and of the piston rod, the piston or the pistons in each cylinder portion can be shifted from the lower position into the upper position so as to suck liquid into the tip vessel connected to each cylinder portion.

  • Patent number: 4290997
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for automatic measurement of the results of agglutination tests, e.g., in a spectrophotometer, adsorption photometer, fluorometer, or nephelometer. Samples of agglutination tests are incubated in reaction vessels, such as cuvettes or set of cuvettes, so as to inactivate the samples before measurement. During incubation of the samples, the reaction vessels are placed, either by sufficient inclination of the reaction vessels or by using reaction vessels specifically designed for the purpose, in which reaction vessels the bottom construction of the reaction vessel has a recess that is positioned lower than the point of passage of the measurement beam, i.e. the measurement window, in the bottom part of the reaction vessel, into such a position that, when no agglutination has taken place, the non-agglutinated particles are assembled or heaped in the reaction vessels into their parts or recesses placed at the lowest level, outside the route of passage of the beam of measurement.

  • Patent number: 4268481
Abstract: A pipette comprising a frame portion shaped as a handle, inside which a cylinder is formed as well as a piston fitted into the cylinder by means of a seal ring, a piston rod connected to the piston, and a press knob with shaft fitted to the upper end of the frame portion. The shaft of the press knob is fastened to the piston rod, which is by means of a seal ring guided into the cylinder space. A connecting channel passes through the piston and partly through the piston rod from the bottom end of the piston into the cylinder space. The bottom end of the piston or an extension part attached to same and provided with a through channel constitutes the tip of the pipette, to which the tip vessel is designed to be connected. When the press knob is depressed, the piston moves down and, at the same time, outwards from the cylinder space so as to suck liquid into the tip vessel by means of the vacuum in this way formed through the channel passing through the piston rod, piston, and possible extension part.

  • Patent number: 4259290
Abstract: The subject of the present invention is a transfer device for analysis equipment, which transfer device comprises a track consisting of, inter alia, guide and support rails on which to transfer a pit plate on a transport cassette along the track. The transport cassette includes a traction rail parallel to the guide and support rails. Traction units are fitted onto the track in the transfer device as means operative jointly with said traction rail to move the transport cassette. In order to control the operation of the traction units, the traction rail is provided with sign codes readable by means of an optical reading device. This indicates the position of the cassette relative to the optical reading device so that the transport cassette may be stopped to position the desired line of pits, transverse to the track for operations to be performed in the analysis equipment, such as liquid dosage, photometric measurement operations, etc.

  • Patent number: 4237095
Abstract: A disposable pipette tip vessel intended for use in connection with a dosage pipette. The lowest point of the tip vessel has a hole for suction of the liquid to be pipetted into the tip vessel and, correspondingly, for emptying of the tip vessel of the liquid contained therein. In the bottom part of the tip vessel around the filling and emptying hole, a plane or gently conical bottom portion has been shaped so that the tip vessel is arranged so that, between subsequent dosage steps to be performed by means of the pipette, the tip vessel allows the air column to be sucked into the bottom part of the tip vessel to rise as an air bubble or as bubbles of air above the liquid in the tip vessel, whereby the liquid column is correspondingly lowered to the bottom of the tip vessel.
