Abstract: In a method, system, detection apparatus and computer program for recognizing a collision of a golf club with a golf ball, the recognition procedure is configured to be executed partly in a motion sensor of a detection device, partly in the processor unit of the detection device and a mobile information processing device. The most complex processing and computation steps are executed in the processor unit of the mobile information processing device. Due to the shared computations the algorithm is accurate and configurable yet the power consumption of the detection device is low at the same time which provides for a long operating time. A method for improving recognition accuracy further may include a procedure of personalizing the configuration of the algorithm.

Abstract: The objects on golf course are mapped accurately enabling advantageous features in the automatic golf tracking system. Strokes can be recorded reliably into the right hole with automatic hole change algorithm observing golfer's presence in green and tee box objects. A method for improving automatic stroke recognition accuracy may include a procedure for configuring the stroke recognition algorithm dynamically based on golfer's position on mapped hole and distance to objects. In addition remaining false stroke recognitions may be removed with configurable post-filters.

Due to the shared computations the result of the algorithm is accurate. Also the power consumption of the detecting device (2) is low which provides for a long operating time and accurate hit detection at the same time.
