  • Patent number: 4858331
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the correction of errors in the measurement of caster, king-pin-inclination and camber on motor vehicles. Inclinometers are used whereby errors are avoided of the type caused by non-horizontal positioning of the vehicle under test. Measurements on the vehicle can easily be carried out without special loading-weights and without roping the vehicle down to the ground. The additional angles of error caused by the inclined position of the vehicle with respect to the horizontal are measured and combined as a correction factor with the measured geometrical values.

  • Patent number: 4741210
Abstract: Method and apparatus are described for bringing a rotating body, set in rotation by a drive, to a standstill as the conclusion of a work cycle. The rotating body may be placed in bearings in a balancing machine where it is investigated for unbalance. Characteristic values for the drive and the rotating body obtained during the acceleration phase are utilized in conjuction with one another for purposes of stopping the rotating body at an exact and specific position for machining purposes at that position on the surface of the rotating body.

  • Patent number: 4484474
Abstract: An unbalance measurement device is provided for a balancing machine for determining the unbalance of a rotor according to position and magnitude. The balancing machine has a drive motor, transducers, a spindle supporting the rotor to be balanced, and an increment disc fixed to the spindle. Filter circuitry for analog signals is provided for the purpose of reducing extraneous signals by means of a filter whose mid-frequency is controlled by a high control frequency. Due to this filtering, changes in the rotational frequency of the rotor to be balanced do not influence the determination of the position of the unbalance. In addition, in the case of correction in several planes, interference of the measurement in one plane caused by the preceding measurement in the other plane is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4250756
Abstract: This invention relates to a process and an apparatus for balancing a body of rotation in two parallel balancing planes disposed perpendicular to the rotational axis of the body. A slotted plate disposed substantially perpendicular to axis of rotation of the body conducts the rotary and translatory vibrations to separate transducers. The slots essentially divide the plate into an outer frame and central portion, which are connected by narrow linking strips. The rotary vibrations are transmitted by linking strips which are stressed in bending, whereas the translatory vibrations are transmitted by linking strips which are stressed in tension or compression. Unwanted force factors are eliminated by interposing members between their source and the foundation, such as by mounting the rotating body and slotted plate upon springs, which in some instances may be vertically disposed.

  • Patent number: 4201091
Abstract: A wheel balancing machine is started by operating a timing switch to transmit reset signals to a synchronous counter, revolution counter, a divider and an average value counter. The reset signals are then terminated concurrently with the first zero crossing of the imbalance value signal derived from the body to be balanced. The synchronous counter is provided with incremental pulses containing angular information corresponding to the imbalance. After a first pulse sequence corresponding to a 180.degree. angle of revolution of the body to be balanced and further pulses at angles of 360.degree. at the output of the synchronous counter, 180.degree. pulses are supplied to a revolution counter and also are conducted by means of a differentiating member to the reset input of a flip-flop, whose set input is affected via a further differentiating member by unbalance representing pulses.

  • Patent number: 4169383
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for the digital indication of the extent of unbalance of a part to be balanced in at least one plane when measuring its unbalance in balancing machines. An alternating voltage corresponding to the extent of unbalance is supplied to an integrator. A reference voltage is supplied to cancel out the output voltage of the integrator. While the integrator is being returned to zero, pulses are supplied to a counter which is thereby actuated to display the extent of the unbalance in digital form.

  • Patent number: 4160384
Abstract: The balancing position of a wheel is designated by light signals which light up at closer intervals as the balancing position is approached in either turning-in direction. Such light signals upon approaching the balancing position include: a first signal in the range of approximately 180.degree. to 90.degree., another light signal in the range from about 90.degree. to 22.5.degree., a further light signal in the range of approximately 22.5.degree. to 1.4.degree.. Upon reaching the balancing position still a further light signal lights up between about 0.degree. and 1.4.degree.. A model representing the part to be balanced carries a series of light signals in both turning-in directions for each balancing plane provided by balancing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4130020
Abstract: A device for measuring out-of-balance forces comprising a frame mounted on wheels, a load receiver mounted on the frame, an elongated pointer arm having one end securely fastened to the frame and a relative type pick-up mounted on the frame in communication with the free second end of the pointer. When a load is applied to the load receiver, the pick-up senses the deflection of the pointer and converts that mechanical movement into an electrical signal for measurement.

  • Patent number: 4093311
Abstract: A clamping arrangement for clamping vehicle wheels against a rotatable counter plate of a test apparatus. A clamping plate is adjustably movable toward the counter plate. Clamping pins are mounted on a pressure plate and adapted to extend into and engage a mounting hole in a vehicle wheel. In order to enable the rapid alignment of a vehicle wheel in the apparatus, while assuring positive clamping, guide pins to the pressure plate. The ends of the clamping pins are contoured to enable them to fit the mounting holes of different diameters.
