  • Patent number: 4687141
Abstract: The jet exiting from jet nozzles is guided along a guide surface for a jet nozzle with one or more nozzle channels disposed next to each other and in parallel, where the hydraulic diameter of the nozzle channels is from about 1.5 to 4 millimeters. In order to limit sharply and without spray the jet exiting out of the jet nozzle crosswise to its axis on the sides and in order to maintain it of uniform width over a large part of its length, the guide surface is of concave shape, the nozzle channels merge without step into the cylindrical jacket surface, the axes of the nozzle channels and the guide surface include an angle of from 0.5 and 2.5 degrees, and the guide surface is provided with a tear-off provision with a cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4676297
Abstract: A strand guide for a continuous casting plant includes rollers supporting and guiding the strand. Each roller has a cavity through which a coolant flows and which is connected with a coolant supply duct and a coolant discharge duct. The coolant discharge duct is aligned in duct-like manner with at least one tuyere or a set of tuyeres of an external cooling device. In order to combine the advantages of an external cooling device with the advantages of an internal cooling of the rollers, the external cooling device includes tuyeres or sets of tuyeres arranged between the rollers. Each tuyere or set of tuyeres is arranged adjacent the roller end that includes the coolant discharge duct. The jet direction of the tuyere or tuyeres of the set of tuyeres is directed opposite to the flow direction of the coolant through the roller.

  • Patent number: 4509582
Abstract: A continuously cast strand is guided through a cooling chamber and brought into direct contact with a coolant evaporating partially. The coolant vapor is brought into heat exchange with a closed surface condenser arranged within the cooling chamber, and a flow-through medium of the surface condenser is brought into further heat exchange with a heat transformer arranged outside the cooling chamber and connected with the condenser.

  • Patent number: 4411534
Abstract: In a method of continuously measuring the temperature of the surface of a strand over the length of a continuously cast strand within a roller guide of a continuous casting plant, at least one thermoelement with its measuring junction and the thermocouple connecting the measuring junction with equalizing conduits are applied onto the strand surface and moved together with the strand surface. In order to make the method insensitive to the conditions prevailing within the cooling chamber, for example, the presence of a high level of humidity or steam, and to keep free the space laterally of the strand by providing a measuring arrangement for carrying out the method which is designable in a constructionally simple manner, the thermoelement is rolled into the strand surface in the longitudinal direction of the strand.
