  • Publication number: 20070242836
Abstract: This invention describes a system that plays back content based on in-vehicle function triggers. The invention may be used for a variety of applications. In one example, the control unit ties to the remote keyless entry (RKE) system and uses the vehicle signal to the function as playback trigger for the content. In-vehicle subsystems such as warning and information signals or other systems with manual triggers like the RKE system may also be tied to the vehicle unit to trigger content playback. Content delivery scenarios provide secure and robust transmission from an original source to the vehicle unit. The vehicle unit stores the content in an on-board storage. Content loading and operation of the system is configured using a computer or handheld device.

  • Publication number: 20060214483
Abstract: An occupant weight sensing system includes a loading rod, which replaces a seat height adjuster pivot bolt and extends away from a seat height adjuster link. A sensing element is mounted at the opposing end of the loading rod. When force is applied the loading rod acts as a cantilever to transfer radial force to the sensing element. A plurality of strain gages are arranged down the center of the sensing element to provide a measurement of strain on the sensing element. The loading rod flexes to transfer any excessive force to a seat bracket. The sensing element has a low sensitivity to axial forces to avoid requiring additional mechanical components to protect the sensing element.

  • Publication number: 20060123911
Abstract: An ultrasound system determines the presence of a foreign object in a container of fluid by measuring echo signals from the outer surface of the container and the inner surface of the container. The amplitude of the echo signals are compared to determine the presence of an object in the container. The system also determines viscosity of the contained fluid by measuring a through-transmission time through the container and the fluid, measuring an outer echo transmission time of an outer echo signal from the outer surface of the container and an inner echo transmission time of an inner echo signal from the inner surface of the container, and determining a time difference between the outer echo transmission time and the inner surface transmission time.

  • Publication number: 20060077055
Abstract: Utilizing a spatial calendar device and service, the user can associate an event reminder to a location in space. The location can be fed into the device manually, from the map unit, GIS address book unit, or from the current reading of the GPS unit, as well as any other source of GPS location media. An event reminder can be text and/or audio to remind the user of a specific thing to do or pick once he or she approaches the location. Examples: once at the parking lot of an airport (inside the car or in the vicinity of the car), the user can associate a reminder (text, audio, or visual) to the location of his/her vehicle at the airport. In this case the system will automatically read the GPS location of the car and will prompt the user to enter an audio or text event reminder.

  • Publication number: 20050249336
Abstract: A telephone system includes a telephone adaptor module with rule-based audio playback in wireless function programming capabilities. The system allows existing telephones to be retrofit with rule-based audio playback functionality. A physically independent remote programming device is used for transmitting function programming information in audio content to the device via wired or wireless transmission. Rule-based audio playback provides ring tone functionality in which user selected audio clips may be played back instead of the conventional telephone ring. The audio clip that is played when a call is received will be based on the rule-based playback scheme programmed by the user. Audio content may also be played back according to programmed rules which do not require a telephone call to be received, but can be activated by other conditions (time of day, temperature, etc.).

  • Publication number: 20050195783
Abstract: A wireless distribution network provides content delivery and data collection to and from portable devices. The network connects a server controlling access to content storage by home nodes, service center nodes and a plurality of wireless nodes. The wireless nodes are disposed at a plurality of locations, such as gas stations (vehicle service stations). The plurality of wireless nodes are connected to the server via the network. Each wireless node is capable of transferring information wirelessly between the node and one of a plurality of portable devices. Each node is capable of detecting and identifying each of the plurality of portable devices. Each node transfers information between the node and the plurality of portable devices based upon the detection and identification of the portable devices. The node also transfers the information between the node and the first computer based upon the detection and identification of the portable devices.

  • Publication number: 20050171650
Abstract: This invention is a system and process for determining and verifying the voracity of data gathered for use in recording and tracking vehicle usage. The device operates to verify and detect events that may affect data integrity by sensing a condition indicative of faulty data acquisition or of corruption of data integrity. Data evidencing potential problems are encoded and included with normal data uploaded to a central server. The central server compares the encoded entries against criteria that have been determined to indicate potential data inconsistencies.

  • Patent number: 6916041
Abstract: An inflator assembly for an airbag includes a container with a plurality of exhaust ports positioned about a perimeter. A rupturable, non-combustible material covers the perimeter of the container to cover the exhaust ports. A plurality of perforated and rupturable walls define a plurality of chambers concentrically disposed within the container. Within each of the plurality of chambers is a detonator to trigger a gas-producing chemical to inflate an airbag cushion. The detonators disposed in each of the individual chambers can be detonated separately from other detonators in other chambers.

  • Patent number: 6889215
Abstract: An intelligent air bag system includes a controller communicating with a sensor suite and the air bag. The controller preferably includes a fuzzy inference engine. The sensor suite includes a plurality of sensors such as weight sensors, acceleration sensors, seat belt activation sensors, and the like. The fuzzy inference engine determines deployment by using a rule base including a multiple of parameters. The decision to deploy the air bag and the strength of the air bag deployment is determined by controller using fuzzy logic to more particularly tailor deployment to present conditions.

  • Publication number: 20050080533
Abstract: A vehicle passenger seat sensor network includes a plurality of vehicle seats, each having a plurality of occupant sensors associated therewith. A seat processor on each seat performs some analysis and processing of the data from the plurality of sensors and sends information based upon the data over a network to a central processor. The central processor receives the information from each of the seats and takes appropriate action based upon this information. For example, the central processor may record and/or transmit the number of passengers, seat belt usage, health of the passengers. The central processor may also determine whether safety restraint systems, such as airbags, associated with that vehicle seat, should be deployed in the event of a collision.
