  • Patent number: 9666311
Abstract: A nuclear fuel assembly having varying spacing between fuel rods is provided. The nuclear fuel assembly includes a bundle of fuel rods. The fuel rods are arranged in a first lattice with a non-uniform pitch between the fuel rods in the lowermost section of the fuel assembly and in a second lattice with a uniform pitch between the fuel rods in the uppermost section of the fuel assembly.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 10, 2012
Date of Patent: May 30, 2017
    Assignee: AREVA NP
    Inventors: Robert Koch, Otmar Bender

  • Patent number: 6600800
Abstract: In a boiling water fuel assembly, some of the fuel rods are shortened. It is necessary to establish a sufficiently high maximum power for transition to boiling. To optimize this power, spacers are at a constant distance at a bottom and are at a shorter distance at a top. The spacers belonging to upper group have turbulence-generating vanes which, however, do not project above the shortened fuel rods.

    Assignee: Framatome ANP GmbH
