Patent number: 7062946Abstract: A roller guide for the guidance of the wire or rod between the finish rolling mill stands of a wire or rod rolling line. The guide has a guide roller pair which are mutually juxtaposed and journaled on free ends of pivot arms of double arm levers. The lever journals are connected with a support body between the finish mill rolls of the rolling line and which has a centering funnel for the rolled wire or rod between the double arm levers. The whereby the pivotal displacements of the pivot arms are settable and spring adjustable about the lever journals. The roller guide is improved in that the pivot arms have setting elements pressed against the support body and in that an adjustable-pressure pneumatic spring connected with the support body and bearing upon the pivot arm extending away from the guide roller or is connected with this pivot arm.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2002Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Assignee: SMS Meer GmbHInventor: Otmar Palzer

Patent number: 6349581Abstract: Rolling stock is transported in a transporting device from a front roll stand to a rear roll stand. Between the roll stands, the rolling stock carries out an oscillation transverse to the transporting direction. At least one characteristic property, amplitude or frequency, of the oscillation is determined quantitatively and, from this determination, a tension or compression, existing in the rolling stock between the roll stands is determined. One of the roll stands is readjusted in such a manner, that a desired tension is built up in the rolling stock between the roll stands.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2000Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AGInventors: Otmar Palzer, Hubert Müller, Ulrich Svejkovsky

Patent number: 6161787Abstract: A method and a device for placing wire windings onto a conveyor belt, particularly onto a Stelmor conveyor belt, wherein the wire windings are placed on the conveyor belt in an actual position relative to the belt middle. The wire windings are placed on the conveyor belt in a position-controlled manner relative to the belt middle. The device for carrying out the method includes a sensor for determining the actual position of the wire windings on the conveyor belt and a control unit, - wherein an actual position and a nominal position are supplied to the control unit and the control unit determines from the difference between the actual position and the nominal position a control signal for the control element and supplies this signal to the control element.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1998Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: SMS Schloemann Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventors: Uwe Plociennik, Otmar Palzer

Patent number: 6112566Abstract: A method of rolling rod-shaped rolling stock, particularly rod steel or wire, in a roll stand having two work rolls which are adjustable relative to each other in an adjusting direction and which together form a roll groove with an actual roll gap, so that the rolling stock exits the roll stand with an actual height and an actual width at a rolling speed, wherein the rolling stock is rolled with an actual rolling force. The method includes the steps of adjusting the work rolls through a hydraulic cylinder unit; measuring the actual rolling force; measuring with the aid of the actual rolling force a roll gap spring-back resulting from the rolling force; determining with the aid of the roll gap spring-back and a desired roll gap a roll adjustment correction value such that the actual roll gap approaches the desired roll gap; and changing a roll adjustment within a stand control time by the roll adjustment correction value.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1999Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventors: Otmar Palzer, Lutz Broll

Patent number: 5709119Abstract: A method and an arrangement for the controlled formation of loops of rolling stock between two roll stands, particularly in the finishing or intermediate trains of small and medium iron trains. In the method, the rolling stock emerging from the roll stand is allowed to drop as a result of gravity, the front end of the rolling stock is then deflected in the direction of the subsequent roll stand and the rolling stock is temporarily supported during the deflection phase until the front end of the rolling stock has entered the subsequent stand and the loop control unit stabilizes the loop. The arrangement for carrying out the above-described method includes a support and guide member for at least the rear roll stand of two roll stands. The support and guide member is inclined downwardly and extends toward the front roll stand.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1995Date of Patent: January 20, 1998Assignee: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventor: Otmar Palzer
