  • Patent number: 7242954
Abstract: A method of adjusting downlink transmission power at a base station based on the measured SIR relative to a referenced level in a mobile terminal. The referenced level can be the targeted SIR or zero. When the measured SIR is greater than the referenced level, the measured SIR is further compared to a first threshold value in order to determine the step size for power reduction. When the measured SIR is smaller than the referenced level, the measured SIR is further compared to a second threshold value in order to determine the step size for power increase. The first and second threshold values can be derived from the target SIR and TPC step size as provided in the RRC signal. Furthermore, the step values and threshold can be based on statistical analysis while the system is running.

  • Patent number: 7209757
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for providing services for mobile users based on location information. A plurality of devices is defined to form a group of devices. A first location information is determined, said first information associating with the location of at least one of the devices in the group. Second location information is also determined, said second information associating with the location of a station of the mobile user. The first and second information is processed to generate third information, said third information being based on the location of the station relative to the location of at least one device of the group. Third information is transported in a communication system after the transportation is triggered by a predefined condition.

  • Patent number: 7174184
Abstract: A method (30) (and equipment adapted to operate according to the method) for enabling or disabling (i.e. triggering) an attribute of communication between a UE device and a NodeB under the control of a RNC using System Information Blocks (SIBs) as a way of configuring communication channels provided by the RNC, the method including: a step (35) in which the NodeB configures itself for communication with the UE device according to a trigger field (40) consisting of typically several bits corresponding to one or more attributes and included in one or more SIBs; and a step (35) in which the NodeB transmits to the UE device the SIB(s) including the trigger field. A multi-bit trigger field can be used to simultaneously control either a number of attributes, or can be interpreted as indicating a value of a single, multi-level attribute (or can be used both ways at the same time).

  • Patent number: 7035234
Abstract: The invention relates to operations in TDD (time division duplex) mode in third generation cellular telecommunication systems. According to the invention, the power level of midamble of the burst sent in the slot of the PICH channel has a predefined relation to the power level of the bursts sent at the primary CCPCH channel. This allows the mobile communication means to receive only one burst for obtaining both desired pieces of information by decoding the PICH bits to find out if a paging message is to be received, and measuring the reception level of the midamble of the PICH burst for determining the quality of the radio connection.

  • Publication number: 20040266434
Abstract: Methods and devices for selecting a handover parameter in a cellular network, wherein a delay of a handover procedure is typically measured and the handover parameter is generally set based on the result of the measuring step. Thereby, the system capacity may be maximized dynamically, depending on the system load and the physical configuration. An optimization of parameter and capacity thus becomes possible.

  • Publication number: 20030100269
Abstract: A radio system comprising one or more network parts and one or more terminals in radio connection to the network part, radio traffic on the radio connection between the network part and the terminal being transmitted in a frame, the network part being arranged to allocate downlink transmission power in at least one timeslot to a given terminal from timeslots determined by said frame. The network part of the radio system is arranged to produce the transmission power of a transmission to a terminal timeslot-specifically such that the power ratio of the transmission power of a radio transmission to the terminal in each timeslot and the interference power caused by transmissions to other terminals exceeds a threshold value preset on the power ratio in the timeslot.

  • Patent number: 6532226
Abstract: The timing of frames associated with a certain first communication connection (301) and allocated for measurement and reception of signalling (302, 303) external to said first communication connection is defined in a cellular radio system. Transmission associated with communication connections is essentially continuous and consists of consecutive frames. Measurement and reception of signalling external to a communication connection necessitates an interruption in the otherwise continuous transmission associated with the communication connection. According to the invention, there is established (701) knowledge that indicates at least one future occurrence of signalling external to the first communication connection. Further there is identified (702), on the basis of said established knowledge, a future frame (305, 307, 308, 310) associated with the first communication connection that will coincide in time (304, 306, 309) with said future occurrence of signalling external to the first communication connection.
