Abstract: A washing machine appliance includes a detergent drawer slidably mounted within a cabinet and an aperture defined through the cabinet. The aperture is open to an ambient environment external to the cabinet when the door is in the closed position. The washing machine appliance also includes a fill duct fluidly coupled to each of the detergent drawer, the aperture, and a wash chamber. The fill duct provides fluid communication between the ambient environment and the wash chamber for providing a flow of fresh air into the wash chamber. The fill duct also provides fluid communication between the detergent drawer and the wash basket for providing additive to the load of articles for washing.

The pump mounting assembly includes a pump that includes an arm that defines an arm recess. Pump includes a leg that includes a stem and a head coupled with the stem. The pump mounting assembly includes a rear grommet operably coupled with the leg. The blower assembly may include a base plate, a blower cover attached to the base plate, a locating pin extending from the base plate, at least one locating knob extending from the base plate, and a blower fan including an exhaust port and defining a plurality of mounting apertures, wherein each of the plurality of mounting apertures are configured to receive one of the locating pin or the at least one locating knob respectively therein to align the exhaust port with the blower cover.

The controller is configured to perform a pet hair removal cycle on the load of laundry articles. The pet hair removal cycle includes simultaneously operating the fan to circulate air through the air duct system and the chamber and operating the drive motor to rotate the basket at a tumble speed for a tumble duration.

Abstract: A laundry appliance and a method of operating the laundry appliance to reduce textile microfiber release includes performing an air wash cycle of a load of laundry articles before performing a wet wash cycle of the laundry load. The air wash cycle includes operating a fan to circulate an airflow through a laundry basket containing a load of laundry articles to release microfibers from the articles. A wet wash cycle follows the dry wash cycle, the wet wash cycle introduces a wash fluid to the load of laundry articles.
