The internal thread has a region that is tapped, is located in, and helically extends from the central clamp section. The fastening device is equipped with an essentially flat first element component for the immediate fastening of the airbag to the body, and a second element component, basically stirrup shaped, for retaining the airbag between the two element components. When assembled, a resilient metal clamp (1) surrounds with two legs (2,3) the edge strip. An intermediate layer (6,26) of a lower level of hardness is provided between the metal bracket (1) and the edge strip. The distance between the legs (2,3) lessens in the end regions (4,5) thereof, and widens again at the ends thereof.
