  • Patent number: 5057015
Abstract: A dental handpiece which can be adapted to different types of rotatable joints without great structural changes comprises a handpiece design having a sleeve-shaped end section which receives an insert part. The insert part has an outer shape that is matched to the interior of the sleeve-shaped section of the handpiece but will have an inner contour which is matched to a particular plug member of a particular type of rotatable joint. Thus, by changing the sleeve insert parts, the handpiece can be modified to receive a different type of plug member of a different type of rotatable joint.

  • Patent number: 4900252
Abstract: A recognition system is provided for tools, such as drill bits and milling bits, which are insertable into dental treatment instruments, each of the tools having an optimum speed at which the tool must be rotated for effective treatment. In the recognition system, each tool is provided with a code corresponding to the speed or speed graduation necessary to effectively use the tool. The system also includes a reader which reads the code on each tool, and generates identifying signals in accordance with the code, which are supplied to an evaluation logic. The logic converts the signal from the reader into control signals for the drive motor used to operate the tool, as well as indicator signals for visually displaying information relating to the tool currently in use.

  • Patent number: 4669982
Abstract: A dental handpiece arrangement having a drive motor mounted in a motor cartridge which is connectible to a supply hose supplying various fluids and electrical power, a coupling member being mounted on the cartridge at one end and a sleeve member being telescopically received on the cartridge and either being an extension of a dental grip piece or an adapter for receiving conventional grip pieces characterized by an illumination arrangement which can either be a light source in the coupling member connected by optical waveguides extending through the sleeve member and the grip piece or can be an electrical connector connected to an electrical lead extending through the sleeve member to a light source either in the sleeve member or the grip piece so that both existing conventional grip pieces with or without the sleeve member can be utilized with the cartridge and coupling member regardless of the type of illumination arrangement being provided therein.

  • Patent number: 4332562
Abstract: A dental handpiece which has at least two handpiece parts each having a drive shaft and a cooling line segment for at least one cooling line agent and an arrangement for releasably interconnecting the two parts with the gears of the drive shaft in driving engagement, the connecting arrangement including a guide fitting strip arranged on one of the handpiece parts and extending axially therefrom to be engaged in an axial extending guide slot in the other handpiece part to prevent twisting between the connected parts, characterized by the connecting arrangement comprising at least one catch element provided on one handpiece part and coacting with a counter element on the other handpiece part, and each of the cooling line segments of the one handpiece part extending into the guide fitting strip, the other handpiece part having a portion supporting each of its cooling line segments to project from a surface into the guide slot to form an axial connection with the segments of the fitting strip and a sealing arrang

  • Patent number: 4107846
Abstract: An improved dental handpiece having a device for supplying a cooling agent to a driven dental instument supported in a head portion of a handle section which is removably mounted on a center section of a handpiece characterized by the device for supplying fluid supplying fluid to a first group of ports which are connectable with an external conduit of a first type of handle section for delivering fluid to the dental instrument and a second group of ports arranged to supply fluid to internal fluid passages of a second type of handle section in which the cooling conduits are incorporated therein and a device for preventing flow from one group of ports so that hand sections having either external cooling conduits or incorporated internal conduits for cooling fluid can both be utilized with the handpiece. In the embodiments of the improvement, the means for preventing flow may either be various valve arrangements, or specially designed plugs and fluid connections.

  • Patent number: 4080737
Abstract: A coupling device for detachably connecting a medical device, such as a dental handpiece, which requires at least one operating medium selected from a group consisting of electrical currents, propulsion gas, auxiliary gas, water and light and has a conduit for each of the required mediums, to a supply tube containing feed lines for at least one of the operating mediums characterized by the coupling device including a pair of coupling halves having coacting coupling links, and means for holding the coupling halves in coupling engagement. Each of the coacting coupling links is located in a specific spatial position in accordance with a pattern so that the coupling half attached to the supply tube can be utilized for coupling a different medical device which requires different selected operating mediums.

  • Patent number: 4057733
Abstract: A dental X-ray diagnostic installation in which an X-ray tube has an X-ray image intensifier associated therewith, and that means are provided which permit an alignment of its inlet screen with the focus of the X-ray tube. The X-ray image intensifier, during the carrying out of radioscopies, receives the X-radiation emanating from the patient and amplifies the radiation. Accordingly, it thereby permits the observation of the presently produced X-ray image either directly through an optical device associated with its outlet screen, or indirectly through the intermediary of a video system connected to the output thereof.

  • Patent number: 3982322
Abstract: An arrangement for the switching on-and-off of a pressurized medium flow and, more particularly a pressurized medium flow which is conducted to a valve through a pressure medium conduit, and then further conducted from there to a withdrawing or extracting location. The valve is supported on a holder so as to be supportable thereon between two end positions, and is so constructed as to block the pressurized medium flow in one of the end positions and to release it in the other end position, and including actuating means which are coupled with the valve which, upon actuation, will displace the valve in a context of positional change thereof.
