  • Patent number: 4323761
Abstract: A radiant heat hair dryer is provided, using a disc-shaped casing in which is mounted a ring-like, infra-red radiator, together with reflector means for directing the infra-red radiation through a grille-like member, that is shaped and constructed to support a small, inexpensive, motor for a flat air fan that directs a gentle flow of air through the same grille-like member providing only slight movement of the hair to avoid disarray of the hairdo while permitting the radiant heat to penetrate into the body of hair. The infra-red radiator includes an elongated, helical heating wire positioned in a ring-shaped, elongated, quartz tube whose ends are supported on a ceramic mount, with a secondary resistance heater carried in the ceramic mount for providing convection heat to ambient air. The resistance heater is advantageously employed to reduce current drawn by the fan's motor, so that an inexpensive, direct current, motor may be employed.

  • Patent number: 4314314
Abstract: An illuminated mirror device is provided as an aid to application of cosmetics. The mirror device provides two mirror-carrying wings that are pivotable between an open planar position and a closed, cassette-like, construction that conveniently provides the mirror device with character as a travel appliance. Pivoting of the wings is about a translucent tube that surrounds an electrically energized source of illumination, and which tube transmits light to the wings which, by reason of their character, guide light therethrough to the free edges of the wings from where illumination is directed toward the object that is to be seen in the mirrors. The wings are provided with inclined border surfaces from which light is reflected toward the object to be illuminated.

  • Patent number: 4201200
Abstract: A portable, or travel-type, oral hygiene appliance is provided with simplified and effective means for producing a pulsating, or intermittent, liquid jet; and optionally including a light stick for obtaining locally-concentrated illumination of areas within the mouth. The appliance is of lightweight and compact construction, in the form of an appliance casing having reduced vertical thickness and with a foldable water container carried on a portion of the upper surface of the casing. The pump for propelling a pulsating liquid jet uses a rotating member carrying spaced roller elements that move against a resilient, flexible, hose with a water column therein, to compress the hose between each roller and an abutment, thereby applying impeller force to spaced segments of the liquid column, so as to obtain an intermittent high pressure, liquid jet, discharge.
