  • Patent number: 4314843
Abstract: A novel class of growth regulator compounds of the structural formula ##STR1## is disclosed, in which Y is --COOH or an agriculturally acceptable salt thereof, --COOR, --CH.sub.2 OH, --CHO, --R, --OR or halogen and R is C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl or alkenyl.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 1980
Date of Patent: February 9, 1982
    Assignee: Gulf Oil Corporation
Inventors: Otto L. Hoffmann, Natu R. Patel
  • Patent number: 4279636
Abstract: New compounds which are herbicide antagonists that are useful for protection of plants from various herbicides are members of the group having the general structural formulas: ##STR1## in which R is hydrogen or C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, branched or straight chain, R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, branched or straight chain, with the total number of carbon atoms in R and R.sup.1 being less than six, preferably less than four, on compounds with both R and R.sup.1 substituents. The novel plant protection agents may be applied both to seeds and to the soil.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 1980
Date of Patent: July 21, 1981
    Assignee: Gulf Oil Corporation
Inventors: Otto L. Hoffmann, Joel L. Kirkpatrick

  • Patent number: 4208203
Abstract: Corn is protected from S-alkyl thiocarbamate herbicides, while obtaining good control of unwanted plant species by applying to the soil in the vicinity of corn seed an effective but non-phytotoxic amount of an N,N-diisopropyl, N-benzyl-N-methyl, N-benzyl-N-ethyl, N-(p-methoxybenzyl), N-methyl-N-phenethyl or N,N-diethyl amide of dichloroacetic, dibromoacetic or tribromoacetic acids.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 5, 1973
Date of Patent: June 17, 1980
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Co.
    Inventor: Otto L. Hoffmann
  • Patent number: 4134754
Abstract: The activity of barban is enhanced and variation of selectivity with climatic conditions is alleviated by applying to wild oats an effective amount of a composition comprising one part by weight barban and at least four parts by weight of a polyunsaturated fatty acid exemplified by linolenic acid. The composition is preferably either dispersed in water with the aid of an emulsifier or dissolved in a mixture of water and a volatile organic solvent such as acetone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 23, 1978
Date of Patent: January 16, 1979
    Assignee: Gulf Oil Corporation
    Inventor: Otto L. Hoffmann
  • Patent number: 4033756
Abstract: Crop seed, particularly corn, grain sorghum and rice are protected from injury by a variety of herbicides particularly the thiocarbamates and some amide types by coating thereon a small, non-phytotoxic amount of an N-substituted amide of a chloro or bromo alkanoic acid, preferably an N-substituted dichloroacetamide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 17, 1971
Date of Patent: July 5, 1977
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company
