Patent number: 4243410Abstract: The present invention relates to novel herbicidally active 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acid alkoxyalkyl amides, processes for their manufacture and also herbicidal compositions which contain them. The preferred utility of the novel compounds is the selective control of monocotyledonous weeds.The novel compounds have the general formula I ##STR1## wherein "alkylene" represents a straight or branched saturated hydrocarbon chain of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R represents an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.The novel compounds are obtained by reacting a halide or lower alkyl ester of 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acid with an alkoxyalkyl amineH.sub.2 N-alkylene-O-Ror by reacting a hydroxydiphenyl ether ##STR2## wherein Y is hydrogen or a cation, with an .alpha.-halopropionic acid alkoxyalkyl amide of the formula ##STR3## in the presence of an acid acceptor.
