  • Publication number: 20140122190
Abstract: Detecting whether a resource is available and facilitating the selection of a resource from a set of resources, some of which may be available or unavailable at any given time can be a challenge. One such resource is a suitable place to park a vehicle including automobile, motorcycle, and bicycle. Finding parking can be a significant challenge in population dense environments. Certain embodiments of the present invention are configured to assist users with quickly and efficiently finding a parking slot near his or her location or destination. The system may be configured to generate parking slot suggestions based on one or more of a wide range of individual or group preference criteria. Advantageously, facilitating quick and efficient parking reduces traffic congestion and pollution.

  • Patent number: 7849139
Abstract: Information is stored in a plurality of mobile peers. The peers communicate in a peer to peer fashion, using a short-range wireless network. Occasionally, a peer initiates a search for information in the peer to peer network by issuing a query. Queries and pieces of information, called reports, are transmitted among peers that are within a transmission range. For each search additional peers are utilized, wherein these additional peers search and relay information on behalf of the originator of the search.

  • Publication number: 20100121522
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device having a controller to receive from a system a broadcasted vehicle velocity, detect that a difference between a velocity of a vehicle carrying the communication device and the broadcasted vehicle velocity exceeds a threshold, and determine from a random policy whether to transmit the velocity of the vehicle to the system. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7016781
Abstract: A database receives location information about a moving object. Using the destination of the object and an electronic map, the database finds a projected path for the moving object. From the projected path, the database computes a trajectory. The trajectory may be used to estimate past and future positions of the moving object. The moving object may send location updates to the database when its actual location differs from its anticipated location by more than an uncertainty threshold.

  • Patent number: 5363473
Abstract: A technique is provided in the present invention for updating a current database without restarting a knowledge-based system (rule-based system, inference system, expert system). The technique allows for the receipt of updates to an earlier database after an inference procedure has started or even after it has ended. The technique calls for the performance of actions necessary to incrementally bring the database to a consistent state by selectively undoing the inferential consequences of not having had the updated fact in the prior inference procedures and redoing the inferential consequences of having the newly received updated fact.
