  • Patent number: 5787706
Abstract: An exhaust gas purification device (10) for trapping combustion engine exhaust emissions, particularly hydrocarbons and particulate matter, is disclosed. The device includes a casing (12) having an inlet (14) for exhaust gases from a combustion engine. The casing (12) houses a filtering and/or adsorbing medium (16), whilst a catalytic converter (22) is arranged downstream of the medium (16). A valve arrangement is provided for controlling exhaust gas flow through the filtering and/or adsorbing medium (16). The casing further includes a throughflow passage (18) adjacent the filtering and/or adsorbing medium (16), the passage running from the upstream end to the downstream end of the filtering and/or adsorbing medium (16). The passage also includes a throttling valve (20) responsive to temperatures in the device.

  • Patent number: 5408979
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device regulation of turbo-charging in an internal combustion engine. The turbo-charging regulation includes a first turbo unit and a second turbo unit each including appropriate turbines and compressors arranged sequentially on the exhaust and the intake sides of the engine. An engine rotational speed sensor is provided issuing a signal indicating the rotational speed of the engine. In addition, at least one pressure sensor issuing a signal indicative of an engine pressure level on the intake side of the engine is also provided. A first valve is associated with the first turbo unit and arranged to direct the engine combustion gases toward the turbine of the first turbo unit in a closed state and to direct the engine combustion gases past the turbine of the first turbo unit in an open state.

  • Patent number: 4523553
Abstract: A combustion engine has at least one balancer shaft, driven by the engine and arranged parallel to the crankshaft, to dampen engine vibrations. The balancer shaft is arranged in a separate housing, mounted on the outside of the cylinder block, to make it possible, with only minor modifications, to equip existing older engine types with balancer shafts. The housing has at least two axially-spaced bearings for the balancer shaft and is attached directly to the engine block by means of fasteners located in the area of those bearings.
