Patent number: 8364623Abstract: A method for computer systems management using mind map techniques comprises receiving a request to generate a graphical summarization of relationships of a particular entity associated with an information technology (IT) infrastructure with other entities associated with the infrastructure, and generating a graphical representation of the particular entity and its relationships as a mind map comprising a plurality of linked nodes. The network of nodes may include a primary node representing the particular entity, a first link from the primary node to a first sub-network of nodes representing a first relationship, and a second link from the primary node to a second sub-network of nodes representing a second relationship.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2005Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Symantec Operating CorporationInventors: Guy Barry Owen Bunker, Christopher James Elphinstone Chandler

Patent number: 8037145Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting email content containment are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises generating a first set of hash values corresponding to a first email document, wherein the first set includes a respective hash value corresponding to each of a plurality of character sequences of the first email document. The method further comprises generating a second set of hash values corresponding to a second email document, wherein the second set include a respective hash value corresponding to each of a plurality of character sequences of the second email document, and determining whether the first set of hash values is a subset of the second set of hash values.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2008Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: Symantec Operating CorporationInventors: Guy Barry Owen Bunker, Tsuen Wan Ngan

Patent number: 7941484Abstract: A method to provide user interfaces for multi-locale context-aware systems management problem analysis comprises receiving a request for information associated with a systems management event, dynamically identifying a first locale designation associated with a first user of a systems management tool and a second locale designation associated with a second user of the systems management tool, and the systems management tool concurrently displaying the information according to the first and second locale designations.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2005Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Symantec Operating CorporationInventors: Christopher James Elphinstone Chandler, Guy Barry Owen Bunker

Patent number: 7680830Abstract: System and method for policy-based lifecycle management of data in file systems. In embodiments, an expiration policy for the files may be stored as part of the file system metadata. The expiration policy may be as simple as an expiration date for the file, or a more complex policy that specifies one or more metrics to be evaluated to determine if a file is expired. The expiration policy may also specify one or more actions to be taken if the file has expired. The expiration policy may be evaluated on attempts to access the files in the file system, on other file systems, and on backup/archive images to determine if the files are expired and thus whether access to the files is to be allowed. In one embodiment, a scan mechanism may periodically or aperiodically delete files in the file system for which the expiration date has passed.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2005Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Symantec Operating CorporationInventors: James Philip Ohr, Christopher James Elphinstone Chandler, Guy Barry Owen Bunker

Patent number: 7664849Abstract: Method and apparatus for the control of finite impulse responses for alerting in policy-based automation. Embodiments of the alert definition mechanism may provide a graphical user interface (GUI) that assists the user in generating complex alert definitions by graphically displaying the signal waveform and providing graphical user interface elements according to a GUI paradigm for manipulating various parameters, such as thresholds, edges, rates, and sustain and repeat periods, to define the alert or alerts. Embodiments of the alert definition mechanism may be used, for example, to assist the user in configuring the policies used in a policy-based automation system. This graphical shaping paradigm may be used to graphically, rather than textually, define the various parameters for alert definitions for relatively simple to complex alert definitions. This graphical approach may be more intuitive to the user than conventional, text-based alert definition mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2005Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Symantec Operating CorporationInventors: Christopher James Elphinstone Chandler, Guy Barry Owen Bunker

Publication number: 20070251160Abstract: A door assembly having a structural inner frame that is secured between an interior sheath and an exterior sheath. The inner frame provides rigidity and strength to the door assembly and will not warp or otherwise lose its dimensional integrity regardless of the environment or usage. Both the interior and exterior sheaths add strength and durability once attached to and combined with the inner frame. The internal frame is formed from metal, wood, plastic, composite panels, polystyrene panels or other structural materials. In the preferred embodiment, the inner frame by itself is not structural, it relies on the interior sheath and exterior sheath for its combined strength. The components of the internal frame are secured together by fastening onto the interior sheath and exterior sheath. This allows the components, while structurally supporting one another, to utilize the interior and exterior sheaths to fasten the components to one another.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2007Publication date: November 1, 2007Applicant: Tuff Shed, Inc.Inventor: Owen Bunker

Publication number: 20070204553Abstract: According to the invention, an apparatus for stabilizing a door is disclosed. The apparatus may be a U-shaped member in which the edge of a door is disposed. The member may have press-fit features to resist removal of the member from the edge of the door. The member may also consist of a gap cover to at least nominally seal the interface of the door and surrounding objects when closed. The member may further define water path features to guide fluids down the length of the member. In another embodiment of the invention, a stabilized door is provided that may consist of such a U-shaped member. In another embodiment of the invention, a building with a stabilized door is provided. The adjacent objects around a stabilized door, such as a door jam, may be fitted with a second U-shaped member that may have some features of the first U-shaped member.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2006Publication date: September 6, 2007Applicant: Tuff Shed, Inc.Inventor: Owen Bunker

Publication number: 20070204525Abstract: According to the invention, a method for making an eave for a roof on a building is disclosed. First, coupling a roof rip piece with an eave trim piece; second, coupling the coupled roof rip piece and eave trim piece with the top of a building; and, in some embodiments, third, coupling a sheeting piece with the top of the building to complete the roof. In another embodiment of the invention, a kit for making a building with an eave is disclosed. The kit may have a plurality of frame members which may be assembled to frame a structure, a roof rip piece, an eave trim piece and a sheeting piece to make a roof with an eave for the structure. Another kit provided by the invention may have a pre-coupled roof rip piece and eave trim piece rather than two separate pieces.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2006Publication date: September 6, 2007Applicant: Tuff Shed, Inc.Inventor: Owen Bunker
