  • Publication number: 20130114436
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for increasing reverse link throughput by coordination of multiple wireless systems using reverse link blanking are provided. Some embodiments involve utilizing the bandwidth of one carrier bandwidth that partially overlaps with the bandwidth of another carrier bandwidth. This overlap may create interference. Different indicators may be utilized to prompt a device, such as a mobile device, to coordinate reverse link transmission blanking on at least one of the carrier bandwidths to increase throughput for the other overlapping carrier bandwidth. For example, a base station may transmit such an indicator to the mobile device to prompt the transmission blanking. Some embodiments also include increasing transmission power for the overlapping carrier bandwidth during the transmission blanking of other carrier bandwidth. Some embodiments utilize flexible carrier bandwidths systems that may utilize portions of spectrum that may not be big enough to fit a normal bandwidth waveform.

  • Patent number: 8355666
Abstract: In embodiments, an adaptive tone erasure technique is applied to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communications, such as ECMA-368 standard ultra-wideband (UWB) communications. A transmitter obtains jammed sub-carrier information and calculates an erasure mask. The jammed sub-carriers are nulled before transmitting to a receiver. In accordance with the erasure mask, bits falling on the jammed sub-carriers are replaced by erasure bits before interleaving, keeping the interleaver block size constant notwithstanding variations in the number of the jammed sub-carriers. The receiver also obtains the jammed sub-carrier information and the erasure mask. After the receiver deinterleaves the constant size blocks, it decodes the data without the erasure bits. The transmitter may detect the jammed sub-carriers itself, or obtain the information from the receiver. The receiver similarly may detect the jammed sub-carriers itself, or obtain the information from the transmitter.

  • Publication number: 20120128035
Abstract: Low-power transmitter and/or receiver devices are provided by sacrificing time and/or frequency diversity in exchange for lower power consumption. When channel conditions indicate that time and/or frequency spreading are unnecessary for transmissions, a transmitter may enter into a power-conservation mode in which transmissions are performed using a time gating scheme or a time repetition scheme. In the time gating scheme, symbols are transmitting just once, rather than a plurality of times, but with increased transmission power. In the time repetition scheme, copies of the same symbol are transmitted a plurality of times on the same frequency on different symbol transmission periods, instead of being retransmitted on different frequencies on different symbol transmission periods. Consequently, the symbol can be generated once and stored for subsequent retransmission, thereby allowing some of the transmitter/receiver chain components can be operated at a lower duty cycle or processing speed to conserve power.
