Patent number: 8876005Abstract: A wireless Bluetooth® paired connection is established between a Bluetooth® module in an electro-optical, handheld reader and a Bluetooth® module in a mobile terminal via a human interface device (HID) profile. Data capture from a target is initiated upon one type of manual actuation, e.g., a single pull, of a trigger on the reader. A soft keyboard is caused to appear on a display on the terminal, either immediately, or after a predetermined event, after the establishment of the Bluetooth® paired connection. The soft keyboard is caused to disappear upon manual actuation of the trigger with a different type of manual actuation, e.g., a double pull, of the trigger. Another double pull of the trigger will cause the soft keyboard to reappear.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2012Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: John P. Evans, Mariya Wright

Publication number: 20140168053Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are described for providing an intuitive user interface on a test and measurement instrument. The test and measurement instrument can include container logic, which provides a work mode in which interactions with objects within a container on a display are allowed, and a move mode in which interactions with the objects within the container on the display are temporarily prevented. When in the move mode, the container logic can detect a dragging gesture associated with the container. In response to the dragging gesture, a preview container arrangement is provided overlaying the container arrangement. The container logic can detect a dropping indication, thereby causing the arrangement to snap to the preview container arrangement. Various other user interface controls are provided while in the move mode. In multi-user environments, customized container arrangements may be saved and then later recalled. Containers may be moved among multiple different displays.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2012Publication date: June 19, 2014Applicant: TEKTRONIX, INC.Inventors: Amy M. Bergsieker, Pechluck S. Publication number: 20140144978Abstract: A system for, and a method of, configuring an electro-optical reader as a keyboard device having a selected keyboard layout containing keyboard layout data, encode each of a plurality of configuration symbols with a symbol sequence number, a total number of the configuration symbols, and a fractional amount of the keyboard layout data. During a configuration procedure, all the configuration symbols are electro-optically scanned and decoded, and the symbol sequence number, the total number of the configuration symbols, and the fractional amount of the keyboard layout data are extracted for each configuration symbol. The keyboard layout data for all the configuration symbols are linked in a sequence determined by each symbol sequence number and the total number of the configuration symbols. All the keyboard layout data is processed to configure the reader during the configuration procedure.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2012Publication date: May 29, 2014Applicant: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Yu Sun, John P. Patent number: 8738536Abstract: A computing device has encrypted content and a corresponding license having a decryption key for decrypting the content. The license allows the computing device to render the content thereon. The computing device may issue a sub-license based on the license to a portable device. The sub-license allows the portable device to render the content thereon and has the decryption key. The portable device has a digital device certificate including information thereon. The computing device receives from the portable device the device certificate thereof, and determines based on rules in the license and the information on the portable device in the device certificate whether the computing device can issue the sub-license to the portable device. If so, the computing device constructs such sub-license to include the decryption key (KD) and transmits the constructed sub-license to the portable device.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2005Date of Patent: May 27, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Clifford P. Patent number: 8585236Abstract: A manually powered hand held electrical device such as a flashlight is provided. The device has an elongate housing, a power-requiring functional element, a hinge element at the back of the housing, and a crank arm having an end rotatably attached to the hinge. The hinge allows the crank arm to rotate within an arc of 270 degrees between a resting position and an operating position. The arc is within a plane that includes the longitudinal axis of the housing. In the resting position, the crank arm is parallel to the housing; in the operating position, it is orthogonal thereto. The hinge is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the housing, and consequently so too is crank arm. The hinge is connectable to a generator; rotation of the hinge element powers the generator, and the generator provides power to the power-requiring functional element such as a light-emitting element.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2012Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Inventors: Stanton M. Tangeman, William P. Evans, Jr.

Patent number: 8438114Abstract: A digital license includes an identification of a removal service that can authorize removing such license. A client selects the license to be removed and the service, constructs a challenge including therein a challenge license identification block (LIB) identifying the license to be removed, and sends the challenge to the service. The service receives the challenge, stores at least a portion of the challenge in a database, constructs a response corresponding to the challenge and including therein a response LIB identifying the license to be removed and an identification of the service, and sends the response to the client. The client receives the response, employs the response LIB from the response to identify the license to be removed, and removes the identified license upon confirming that the identification of the service in the identified license matches the identification of the service in the response.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2011Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Benjamin Brooks Cutter, Brian P. Patent number: 8290874Abstract: A computing device segregates licenses for corresponding content according to relatively short lived licenses for relatively short lived content and relatively long lived licenses for relatively long lived content. The computing device stores the relatively short lived licenses in a more temporary and volatile license store, and the relatively long lived licenses in a more permanent and non-volatile license store. Thus, the relatively short lived licenses are deleted when the temporary license store is turned off and do not create disorder in the permanent license store.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2005Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Brian P.
