Abstract: Disclosed are methods for producing heat sealable multilayer paperboards including precoating layer including polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex binder and one or more water-based barrier layers. Heat sealability of the multilayer paperboard was significantly better than heat-sealability of a multilayer paperboard wherein the precoating was omitted or wherein the precoating incudes typical binders such as styrene butadiene latex or styrene acrylate latex but no polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex. Also disclosed are heat sealable multilayer paperboards obtainable by the method and use of polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex in precoating composition for improving heat sealability of a multi-layer paperboard.

Abstract: Disclosed is polymer dispersion obtainable by free radical polymerization reaction of hemicellulose with one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers. Also disclosed are coated paper products wherein the coating is prepared using the polymer dispersion and use of the polymer dispersion as a size and coating of a paper, paperboard, and the like.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for sealing paperboard, wherein the sealing is performed by using water-based barrier coating materials applied and dried on the paperboard. According to the method, the heating is performed on uncoated side of the paperboard. Also disclosed is a sealed paperboard product wherein the seal is obtainable by the disclosed method.

Abstract: A stable aqueous dispersion of platy particles and precipitated calcium carbonate, a method of producing the same and uses of the dispersion. The aqueous dispersion comprises 50 to 95 parts by weight of platy particles; and 5 to 50 parts by weight of precipitated calcium carbonate particles having an average diameter of 30 to 60 nm. The dispersion has a dry matter content of more than 30% by weight of the dispersion, and a Brookfield viscosity (100 rpm) of 200 to 5000 cP. The dispersion is suitable for forming barrier coatings on a substrate, having properties of improved gas barrier and improved mineral oil barrier.
