  • Publication number: 20190007906
Abstract: Method by a communication device (120) for managing beam coverage. The device receives and evaluates (201) first reference signals transmitted by a network node. The first reference signals are comprised in first beams. The first beams are static or semi-static. The receiving and evaluating is according to a first state, wherein the device refrains from reporting back about the first reference signals. In response to the conclusion that all of the first reference signals are too weak and/or of too low quality by comparison to a threshold, the device sends (202) a request to one or more network nodes (110, 111), requesting a certain procedure for providing, by beamforming, one or more second beams (127, 128) specifically to target the device. The second beams (127, 128) comprise one or more second reference signals. The device switches, to a second state. wherein the device actively participates in the provision of beam coverage and is in a battery-saving mode.

  • Publication number: 20180376454
Abstract: Systems and methods for transmitting and receiving other broadcast information, OBI, are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of wireless communication device for a wireless communication system comprises receiving and decoding a transmission unit in which OBI is collocated with at least a portion of a Synchronization Signal Block (SSB). The SSB comprises a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH). The OBI comprises paging messages, remaining minimum system information (RMSI), and/or random access response (RAR) messages. In some embodiments, the transmission unit is a transmission unit having a duration that is two or more symbols but less than a duration of a full slot. In this manner, resources of the wireless communication system are efficiently utilized, which results in higher link and system capacity as well as lower network power consumption from increased stand-by times.

  • Patent number: 10164752
Abstract: A receiver apparatus receives a terminal-specific demodulation reference signal having a rank k and estimates an effective multi-layer channel response, using the received terminal-specific demodulation reference signal. The receiver demodulates first data symbols from first time-frequency resource elements, using the estimate of the effective multi-layer channel response and using a first symbols-to-virtual-antenna mapping matrix M to obtain nc modulation symbols from each of the first time-frequency resource elements, wherein nc>1 and wherein the first symbol-to-transmit-layer mapping matrix M has dimensions k by nc. The first data symbols are decoded to obtain downlink control information assigning second time-frequency resource elements to the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20180332607
Abstract: Method for facilitating communication of control information. A message (200) is defined to communicate control information. The message (200) comprises a sequence of bits (201). A first mapping (202) defines how to interpret the message (200), defining which bits comprise a value of a first set of values (203), and for which variable in a first set of control information variables (204). The first communication device communication device (101) obtains (301) an update on how to interpret the message (200). The update is based on a second mapping (401).
