Abstract: This disclosure relates to managing diabetes induced visual dysfunctions or vision loss by altering levels of dopamine. In certain embodiments, the disclosure relates to methods of treating or preventing visual dysfunction or loss of vision comprising administering an effective amount of dopamine, derivative, ester, prodrug, or salt thereof to a subject wherein the subject is at risk of, exhibiting symptoms of or diagnosed with diabetes or diabetic retinopathy.
