Patent number: 9128352Abstract: A flash device includes a light emitting element configured to emit light and light controlling elements. The light controlling elements include a light receiving surface and a light exiting surface that is non-parallel to the light exiting surface of an adjacent light controlling element. The light controlling elements are individually adjustable to vary a difference between an amount of light received at the light receiving surface and an amount of light exited from the light exiting surface such that amounts of light exiting respective non-parallel light exiting surfaces vary to control direction of light emitted by the flash device.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2012Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Mobile Communications ABInventors: Magnus Jendbro, Pär Stenberg, Gunnar Klinghult, Andreas Kristensson, Ola Thörn

Patent number: 9129442Abstract: An apparatus and method generate a three-dimensional image by determining, using a light-field camera, a depth map corresponding to an environment. The depth map represents how light falls in the environment. The method also includes determining a parallax occlusion map of the environment and creating, using the depth map and the parallax occlusion map, a three-dimensional image representing the environment. In some embodiments, the method includes taking a first picture of the environment with a first flash intensity and a second picture of the environment with a greater second flash, determining differences between the first picture of the environment and the second picture of the environment, determining one or more properties of the environment based at least in part on the determined differences and dynamically re-lighting the three-dimensional image using the depth map, the parallax occlusion map, and one or more of the determined properties of the environment.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2012Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Mobile Communicaions ABInventors: Pär-Anders Aronsson, Martin Ek, Magnus Jendbro, Magnus Landqvist, Pär Stenberg, Ola Thörn

Patent number: 9057943Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a sound recording arrangement comprising a sound recording arrangement and a method in the sound recording arrangement for amplifying sounds in a primary gaze direction of the user of the sound recording arrangement. The method comprises the actions of recording sounds arriving at a sound recording unit from objects in the field of view of the user, and recording a first set of images of the head and/or the eyes of the user, and determining a primary gaze direction of the user based on the first set of images, and amplifying sounds arriving in the primary gaze direction compared to sounds arriving from other directions.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2012Date of Patent: June 16, 2015Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Mobile Communications ABInventors: Pär Stenberg, Karl Ola Thörn, Magnus Jendbro, Pär-Anders Aronsson, Magnus Landqvist, Martin Ek

Patent number: 8913142Abstract: The invention is directed to systems, methods and computer program products for controlling a focus operation for an image-capturing device. An exemplary method includes receiving a focus instruction, wherein the focus instruction describes an object of focus; sending first context data to an external system; in response to sending first context data to the external system, receiving second context data from the external system, wherein the second context data comprises data associated with the object of focus; and identifying the object of focus based on the received second context data; and determining a focus distance based on the identified object.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2012Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Mobile Communications ABInventors: Andreas Kristensson, Gunnar Klinghult, Ola Thörn, Pär Stenberg, Magnus Jendbro
