  • Publication number: 20100306016
Abstract: Personalized task recommendation technique embodiments are presented that involve recommending a particular task or tasks to a user which can be employed in furtherance of a desired goal based on observations of past users and how they accomplished this goal. The workflow that is recommended to a user is personalized in that it takes into account the demographic characteristics of the user and the workflow tasks they use. This involves grouping the aforementioned past users into groups whose users accomplish a particular goal using a similar workflow and exhibit similar demographic characteristics. A new user wishing assistance in completing a particular goal is then associated with the group having similar demographic and workflow choice characteristics to the new user. A workflow based on the workflows of the associated group is then recommended to the new user.

  • Publication number: 20090238567
Abstract: A ring connection system and method are provided for distributing signals in an optical-to-electrical interface. The method electrically connects a plurality of nodes in a series-connected ring, and receives an optical signal at a first node from a service provider. The method converts the optical signal to an electrical signal, and distributes the electrical signal via the ring. At each node, the electrical signal is supplied from a customer interface. Typically, each node has a plurality of customer interfaces. In one aspect, ITU-T G.984.3 Giagbit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) optical signals are received converted to a customer interface electrical signal such as an Ethernet, asynchronous transfer mode, or time division multiplexed signal. Electrically connecting the plurality of nodes in the series-connected ring includes: series connecting the nodes in a North ring; and, series connecting the nodes in a South ring, opposite in direction from the North ring.

  • Patent number: 7574632
Abstract: A system and apparatus generates a time-stamp to identify and record the time of an event such as an edge received in a data signal or clock signal. A set of strobe pulses can be generated by routing an external clock signal to delay elements with incrementally increasing delay values. A data signal or device under test clock signal can be applied to the input to each of a set of latches which are clocked by the strobe pulses. The set of latches can thereby capture a series of samples of the data signal or clock signal. The series of samples can be encoded as an edge time within a clock cycle. A clock cycle counter can be added to the edge time to generate the time stamp.

  • Patent number: 7573957
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided to recover clock information embedded in a digital signal such as a data signal. A set of strobe pulses can be generated by routing an edge generator to a delay elements with incrementally increasing delay values. A set of latches triggered by incrementally delayed signals from the edge generator can capture samples of the data signal. An encoder can convert the samples to a word representing edge time and polarity of the sampled signal. The word representing edge time can be stored in memory. An accumulator can collect the average edge time over N samples. The average edge time can be adjusted with a fixed de-skew value to form the extracted clock information. The extracted clock information can be used as a pointer to the words stored in memory.

  • Publication number: 20090148161
Abstract: A high-capacity digital communications system and method of transporting 10 GbE LAN packets between user devices over an OTN network that allows the packets to be transported in a manner that is transparent to the destination device(s) on the network. The digital communications system includes an OTN network, and at least one source device and at least one destination device connected to the network via respective 10Gbase-R interfaces. The system transports 10 GbE LAN data packets over the OTN network by performing decoding on the packets to recover the preamble and variable length data contained in each packet, removing the IPG between successive packets in the stream, encapsulating the packets including the respective preambles and data, and mapping the encapsulated packets to the overhead and payload areas of ODUk frames. The packets are then transported over the OTN network from the source device to the destination device.
