  • Patent number: 7746340
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for generating a two dimensional (2D) image of a structure (e.g., an organ) that has at least one pixel corresponding to at least one voxel of a three dimensional (3D) image of the structure. First, the surface of the structure in the 3D image is modeled by a geometrical volume such as an ellipsoid. Next, normal maximum intensity projection (MIP) rays are cast (i.e., projected) for voxels of the geometrical volume. The 2D image is then generated using the rays. The 2D image has at least one pixel that corresponds to at least one voxel of the 3D image.

  • Publication number: 20100120580
Abstract: A multi-mode hybrid transmission for transmitting power from a prime mover and a stored source of energy to a final drive shaft. The transmission may include an input shaft to receive torque from the prime mover, a countershaft operatively coupled to the final drive shaft, a plurality of gear pairs each defining a torque path from the input shaft to the countershaft, a synchromesh clutch assembly to selectively couple the input shaft with a desired gear pair, and first and second electric machines rotatably carried by the input shaft. The first electric machine can provide a motive force to the final drive shaft and the second electric machine can covert rotary speed of the input shaft into electrical energy. Additionally, the first and second electric machines can provide supplemental torque to the output shaft during periods of reduced torque from the prime mover associated with a change in torque path.

  • Patent number: 7698601
Abstract: A minimally degraded configuration is determined when failing connections occur. Associative deconfigurations are determined from deconfiguring hardware items in a server system, associative groups are derived, and failed connections are determined. Failed connections are determined between two hardware items that are in the same associative group, and the two hardware items at both endpoints of the failed connection are deconfigured. Each associative group state is set to unknown, and the failed connections are counted where a single endpoint of the failed connection is within the associative group. The associative group state is set to deconfigured, if a member of the associative group was deconfigured. Counts of the associative groups that remain in the unknown state are analyzed, and the associative group with the smallest failed connection count is selected and set to a configured state.

  • Publication number: 20100086480
Abstract: Methods for significantly lowering the carbon-14 content, particularly of DNA and histones in vertebrates, especially humans, to significantly below normal background levels and thereby reduce chromosomal damage using dietary supplements based on low radiocarbon DNA and histone precursors optionally including selected low radiocarbon amino acids, preferably including those which contribute the largest share of histone carbon atoms. Administration of the supplements during the earliest and/or most active growth stages of life is particularly beneficial. Components of the low radiocarbon supplements can be produced using a photobioreactor, an aqueous reaction medium and low radiocarbon carbon dioxide. The photobioreactor can be integrated into a body of water or can comprise a mobile, floating structure. Low radiocarbon by-products of photosynthesis can be recycled for use in non-photosynthetic fermentation processes to increase the yield of desirable supplement components.

  • Patent number: 7688553
Abstract: A disk drive head-gimbal assembly includes a flexure that is modified to address the effects that the operating temperature of the disk drive may have on fly height. Generally, the flexure tongue is split into a leading edge flexure tongue section and a trailing edge flexure tongue section that are separated by a slider decoupling section. The slider decoupling section structurally interconnects the leading and trailing edge flexure tongue section, and further provides a reduced contact area with the slider. This reduced contact limits the ability of the flexure tongue to induce a positive crown on the air bearing surface of the slider.
