  • Patent number: 6393728
Abstract: A fiber containing pulp, such as chemical pulp, mechanical pulp, thermomechanical pulp, TMP, de-inked water, or fiber containing sludge, is dried in an effective and efficient manner. The wet pulp is first dewatered mechanically, such as by using a drum or screw press. Then dewatered pulp is passed to a dryer. The dryer has first and second apertured cylindrical surfaces defining a gap between them, and drying gas is blown through one of the apertured surfaces, then through a pulp layer moving in the drying gap between the cylindrical surfaces, and then through the apertures in the other cylindrical surface, to evaporate water from the pulp and dry it to a dry matter content of over 80%, preferably about 85-90%.

  • Patent number: 6372094
Abstract: A pulp drying line which comprises a pulp press for pre-drying the pulp and a defibrator for shredding the pre-dried pulp into a loose pulp. The drying line further comprises a web forming section and a pulp dryer section. The loose pulp coming from the defibrator is spread in the web forming section in a layer on an air-permeable forming base, from which the air-permeable pulp web thus formed is taken through the dryer section supported by an air-permeable support fabric, such as a wire. The pulp is not formed into a pulp web during pre-drying.

  • Patent number: 6358366
Abstract: A system and method effectively threading the moist tail of a web through a pulp dryer. A tail threading belt in a closed loop passes the tail of the web through the dryer, and the most tail of the web is transferred from a support wire in the press section of a pulp machine to the tail threading belt. Transfer may be effected using a suction roll with a suction sector and a blower sector, or by using a suction chamber having a perforated escort belt which cooperates with it to engage the tail section on the wire and fully support it during transfer to the threading belt. The threading belt may be folded over to contain the tail web inside it while it passes through the dryer.

  • Patent number: 6230422
Abstract: A method and apparatus achieve a more sustainable lift of a wet or heavy pulp web from a pulp machine to the topmost drying level of a pulp drying, allowing the speed of production to be increased and runnability problems to be minimized. The pulp web is lifted from the last press of the pulp machine to the topmost of the drying levels of the pulp dryer by supporting the web on a support wire. The pulp may be passed through the topmost drying level, and one or two other levels, also supported by a support wire, but in subsequent levels the pulp web is preferably supported only by an air cushion. In each level drying gas is blown toward the pulp web (preferably from both above and below the web) to effect drying, and the web passes around turning rolls between each drying level to enter the next, lower, drying level. The support wire may be of metal or plastic, and has a texture significantly coarser than the texture of wires commonly used in pulp machines.

  • Patent number: 5643078
Abstract: A method and system for air-conditioning of a coating station for a paper web in which hot and moist air is removed from the environment of the coating station. In the method, a dry and cool air flow is blown into a working area of a person working at the coating station, to the direct vicinity of the person, so as to air-condition the working area and to constitute breathing air for the person. Out of the working area of the person, from the direct vicinity of the person, hot and moist air is removed as a suction flow. The system for air-conditioning of a coating station for a paper web or equivalent is placed in connection with the coating station and includes an exhaust air device.
