Patent number: 9450769Abstract: A user interface is provided for conducting online conversations that span asynchronous and synchronous modes of communications. Users can initiate a new conversation or find existing conversations by choosing images of friends from a drop down list based on text input of friends' names. Conversations are represented in a tree-branch configuration such that new comments added to a conversation are associated directly to the existing comments to which they respond. Branches can be opened or collapsed automatically or at the users' option, allowing the user focus his attention on part(s) of the conversation. Content from the web can be searched and found content can be included into the body of a comment. All participants in a conversation see the same representation of the conversation and links to referenced Web content are maintained in tact regardless of the length and complexity of the conversation.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2010Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Adam Gregory Wolff, Kent Alexander Libbey, Pablo Kang, Peter Damian Andrea

Patent number: 7680941Abstract: The present invention provides software developers with the capability to create applications that can access information online and offline without having to program such capabilities into their applications. An application can gather information from various remote data sources via a network or other communication means, and still have access to all or a portion of that information when the computing device running the application is no longer connected to the network. In one embodiment, a client manages information access, caching and synchronization for the application. When connected, information accessed is stored in a local data store on (or near) the computing device. When disconnected, requests are run against the local data store instead of the remote data source. When reconnected, information is synchronized between the local data store and the remote data source.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2006Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Laszlo Systems, Inc.Inventors: Eric D. Bloch, Max D. Carlson, Pablo Kang, Christopher Kimm, Oliver W. Steele, David T. Temkin
