  • Patent number: 8064903
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for triggering roaming in a mobile network device are disclosed. A speed of the network device is detected. One or more maximum/minimum trigger values corresponding to one or more trigger events are ascertained at the speed of the network device. One or more trigger counters associated with the one or more trigger events are maintained. Roaming of the network device is triggered when one of the trigger counters associated with one of the trigger events is equal to or exceeds (or is less than or equal to) one of the trigger values corresponding to the trigger event at the speed of the network device.

  • Patent number: 7624270
Abstract: The present invention communication network system and method facilitates authentication and registration in a communication network as mobile nodes move from one geographical region to another. Multiple wireless domain services (WDSs) share client authentication information permitting relatively seamless roaming between subnets with minimal interruptions and delays. In one embodiment, a wireless domain service network communication method is performed utilizing partial authentication processes. A mobile node engages in an authentication protocol with a first wireless domain service (WDS) access point in a first subnet. The authentication credentials are forwarded to a second wireless domain service in a second subnet if the authentication protocol is successfully completed. The forwarded authentication credentials are utilized to authenticate the client entering the service area of the second wireless domain service in the second subnet.

  • Patent number: 7599398
Abstract: A root node sets wireless network timer values by using dynamic location information of a plurality of non-root nodes. In an embodiment, the root node and the non-root nodes are bridges, wherein the non-root bridges are connected to the root bridge in a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint manner. The locations of the nodes are determined by using a location system and locations receivers. The root node and each of the non-root nodes use this location information to determine the optimum timer values for the wireless network, thereby improving throughput on the wireless network. In one embodiment, the location system is the global positioning system (GPS). The location receiver is a GPS location receiver that is embedded in each of the nodes. In another embodiment, the GPS location receiver is external to the nodes, and the location information is determined remotely.

  • Patent number: 7574217
Abstract: A method for dynamic configuration of a mobile access point. A position of the mobile access point is determined based on a position determination system. A region is identified based on position. Configuration information associated with an application of the mobile access point is automatically updated based on the region.

  • Patent number: 6806814
Abstract: Internet nodes having global positioning receivers or the like are configured for communicating position information over the Internet, using an Internet protocol (IP). Preferably, information packets according to the protocol include some or all of a source identifier, a time stamp and/or an indicator of the type or format of the position information. Preferably, end-users may provide for encryption, passwords or other features for controlling the entities which can receive or use the position information.

  • Patent number: 6154743
Abstract: A technique offloads a central directory services (CDS) function from a mainframe of an advanced peer-to-peer networking (APPN) network to a light-weight directory access protocol (LDAP) Accessible Directory Services (LADS) residing off the mainframe on another dissimilar network. At least one network node of the APPN network is configured with LDAP interface that enables communication with the LADS. The LADS is configured to provide CDS functionality on the dissimilar network, such as a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol network. In response to a request from a node on the APPN network, the LDAP interface accesses the LADS using the LDAP protocol in accordance with a client-server architecture.
