Abstract: A media gateway controller in a packet communication network. The media gateway controller comprises an interface configured to receive a first plurality of update messages from a first plurality of application servers of a first enterprise network and receive a second plurality of update messages from a second plurality of application servers of a second enterprise network wherein the update messages indicate the status of the application servers. The media gateway controller also includes a processor configured to process the update messages to update a routing table based on the status of the application servers.

Abstract: A communication system comprising a call control system and a gateway coupled to the call control system and coupled to a first network node and a second network node. The gateway interworks first communications to a first transport type for the first network node and interworks second communications to a second transport type for the second network node. The gateway, responsive to a status change associated with the first network node, transfers a first update message to the call control system wherein the first update message indicates the status change associated the first network node and the first transport type. The call control system, responsive to receiving the first update message from the gateway, determines a first priority associated with the first update message based on the first transport type.

Abstract: A multi-mode mobile station includes a first interface for wireless communication with a first wireless network, such as a wireless local area network (WLAN), and a second interface for wireless communication with a second wireless network, such as a wireless wide area network (WWAN). When a call is placed to the multi-mode mobile station, a softswitch or other controller attempts to establish the call with the multi-mode mobile station via the first wireless network. If this attempt is unsuccessful because the multi-mode mobile station is inaccessible via the first wireless network, the controller then attempts to establish the call via the second wireless network.

Abstract: A method, medium, and content switch device are provided for enhanced directory assistance. A GPS-enabled wireless phone generates directory assistance requests that are monitored and processed by the content switch and a directory assistance platform to generate results that satisfy the directory assistance requests. The content switch intelligently monitors the directory assistance sessions and dynamically invokes value-adding services that delivers rich content in addition to the results to the GPS-enable wireless phone or other registered client devices based on the directory assistance requests or results. The value-adding services may include pushing driving directions to the GPS-enable wireless phone, providing training video content corresponding to vendors associated with the directory assistance requests, or connecting the GPS-enabled wireless phone to a live video-conferencing session.

Abstract: A communication system comprising an end device, a location server, and a plurality of resources, each resource for providing individual instances of a first application. The end device is configured to transmit a first test message for the first application to a first resource of the plurality of resources using a first access method, receive a first response message from the first resource, process the first response message to determine first performance information for the first application, generate a first update message indicating the first performance information, and transmit the first update message to a location server.

Abstract: A communication network comprising a routing system, a media gateway coupled to the routing system, and a network element coupled to the routing system. The media gateway, responsive to a status change of the media gateway, transfers a first packet for a location server to the routing system which indicates the type and wherein the type of the first packet comprises an update message. The network element transfers a second packet for a destination which indicates the type and wherein the type does not comprise an update message. The routing system processes the first packet to determine a first class of service based on the type of the first packet and processes the second packet to determine a second class of service based on the type of the second packet wherein the first class of service is higher than the second class of service.
