  • Publication number: 20080299042
Abstract: The present invention is directed to novel methods of treating, identifying or diagnosing a hyperproliferative disorder in a patient in need thereof. The methods of the invention include administering to a patient a composition comprising a binding molecule which binds to a cell surface expressed glycoprotein expressed predominantly in tumor or tumor-associated cells. In particular, the therapeutic and diagnostic methods of the present invention include the use of a binding molecule, for example an antibody or immunospecific fragment thereof, which specifically binds to a membrane associated molecule, variant polypeptide or fragment thereof. The present invention is based, at least in part, on the discovery of membrane associated proteins, i.e., nucleic acid molecules which encode membrane proteins and the use of these molecules to generate custom arrays to screen for markers associated with various diseases and disorders, e.g., cancer, e.g.

  • Patent number: 7238533
Abstract: Personal illicit drug detecting apparatus is disclosed which includes a substance chemically reactive to a suspected drug. The substance is provided in the form of a layer positioned on at least one finger of a user. The substance can be blended into finger nail polish and positioned on at least one nail by painting or positioned anywhere on a finger in the form of a decal. To test a suspected beverage the user inconspicuously moistens the substance on the finger or finger nail with liquid from a beverage and observes any change (e.g. color, image, etc.) of the layer on the finger nail or finger nail, wherein the change indicates the presence of the suspected drug in the beverage.

  • Publication number: 20060073477
Abstract: Antibodies which specifically bind to components of the DNA synthesome which are altered in malignant cells are disclosed. These antibodies can be used, inter alia, to diagnose, prognoses, and treat malignancy and in assays to screen cells, tissues, and body fluids for the presence of a malignant phenotype. These antibodies can be further used to identify test compounds having the ability to suppress the malignant phenotype in a cell by assaying for the ability to inhibit or block the function of an altered component of the DNA synthesome associated with the malignant phenotype. Further, disclosed herein are methods and kit for minimally invasively detecting the presence of neoplasms and malignant conditions using easily obtainable body fluids, such as blood, plasma, lymph, pleural fluid, spinal fluid, saliva, sputum, urine, and semen, for example, to both detect the presence of cancer as well as assess the stage of the disease and the prognosis of the patient.
